Northern Iowa playing the regionals in St. Louis is the Valley's best shot at returning to prominence, multiple tournament bids every single year, and better recruitment that we've had in a long, long time.
Like in 2006, the Valley fans need to band together. St Louis is the home of the conference tournament and of the four teams advancing to St Louis, the crowd needs to be dominated by fans of the Valley. You don't have to be a Northern Iowa fan, but you do know that if they hit the Final Four or the National Title game, this will highly likely be a great benefit for many teams in the conference for many years to come.
I'm sure there are Kansas fans that bought tickets to St Louis when the brackets were announced, and now they are probably desparately trying to dump those tickets. Stubhub, craigslist, eBay.. the Valley needs to fill that arena so much that Northern Iowa would look like the overall #1 ranked team in the country.
I've been trying to get through to ValleyTalk.net, but the site has crashed. Whenever it gets up, I hope everyone there gets the word, as well.
Northern Iowa has been put into the same situation as George Mason was in 2006. George Mason had the support of their campus nearby. Northern Iowa needs the support of the entire Missouri Valley Conference fanbase.
I'm going to try and drive up from Memphis to attend my very first MVC game after I fell in love with the conference when a directional school 12-seed named Southwest Missouri State held Wisconsin to 32 points in the first round and blew out Tennessee by 30 in the 2nd. Every year I looked forward to a severely underrated Valley school beating a tourney favorite, and almost every single year, you guys delivered. I have to deal with a chronic illness that prevents me from driving far, but I will do my ****dest to make it to St Louis for this.
UNI needs us. They need Northern Iowa fans, Bradley fans, Missouri State fans, Drake fans.. all of us.
On a side note, Cornell's regionals will also be a home game, so I have urged Cornell Big Red fans to show the fans watching on TV nothing but a sea of red in the crowd.
I love the Valley. After so many years of watching the NCAA selection committee screw team after team from the MVC a slot in the tournament and the media continually badmouthing the conference (ESPECIALLY today as 'experts' spit bile and venom at UNI for having the audacity of taking out the #1 team in the nation), the Valley needs to join together in unison and show the nation that even during a series of "down" years for the Valley, they can be a threat to win the National Title.
Please help UNI get just two steps further to bringing the Missouri Valley Conference into a golden age and once again be regarded as a power conference.
