  • Ali's 3-pointer at the end of the Kansas game

OK - I will admit, it was the killer -- the dagger....the nail in the coffin...

but was it the right move??
seriously, he misses more than he makes, and if he misses that shot with his team up one point, and if Kansas comes down and makes a basket then is he not the goat of the game and we would all be sitting here saying his shot was bad move, and it reflects bad coaching...

Instead...everywhere they're saying it was a great move and it even proves he's been coached well...

Just wondering what everyone thinks...personally I would have wanted him to dribble out the clock and try to get fouled.....

It depends on the player....with Ali that's the way he plays. He's 0-5 in the second half but is not afraid of taking the biig shot...whenever

I think it was more of instinct than anything. You don't have time to contemplate every situation. He was so wide open - he felt so confident he could make it, so he went ahead. He'd been taking contested 3's all tournament, so a wide-open 3 was probably an easy choice for Ali. He probably had a momentary lapse in how much time was left too and that they weren't going to be shooting any more shots the rest of the game. He was just in the moment, and fortunately, it went down. If he didn't make it, the result may have been different.
At least it gives Valley followers something to remember down the road, and a shot like that is not easily forgotten.

it is a memorable shot and I am really happy it turned out the way it did and it burns Bill Self so bad you could see him steaming in the post-game press conference..

Ben Jacobson made a comment that if they play defense the way he asks them to do... and if they can hold a team like Kansas in the 60's... then he lets them trust their gut instincts on the offensive end and doesn't try to mess with that too often. Probably the "right thing to say" in that case, but I liked the comment nonetheless.

That type of shot in that situation is where you will hear a coach say (cleaning it up here) no....no....no... YES!!!!!!!!

            Regardless of the player... imho

He becomes the hero by making the shot and a goat if he misses, but in order to beat the no.1 seed sometimes you just have to take some chances and his shot gave them a 4 point lead which in turn won the game for them.

We all know what the right thing to do would of been But there is just that little something inside of me that saids it was the right thing at the right time Just because what Kansas had done in stealing the ball 3 times in the last minute and was on a big time run for the win. If that shot does not go, I like Kansas's chances of going on and winning, based on the way things were going That one shot was nothing short of a sealing the win and putting his team back on track for the final 30 sec's.

Ali's shot was well reasoned. Given the way the pressure of Kansas was causing turnovers it may have been riskier to try to hold the ball. There was still over 35 seconds and a Kansas foul was going to create a one-possession game. I think he did think this through because there was a moment's pause before he set his feet to shoot.

Kansas was getting the ball back either way. That was the most likely the best look UNI would have gotten on that possession with the defense KU had been playing in the last 5 min.

I thought it was a good shot, though it made me a little nervous how early in the shot clock it was... Thing is you can't pass up a look that open when you're a good outside shooter.

I thought it was a great look and, with the way that Kansas had stepped up the D over the final four minutes, was probably the best shot they would get.

He's been a top shooter for them all year and, being a senior, got to figure that Jacobsen would trust in his players.

                          Was a really good game!

It's too bad Gus Johnson wasn't announcing that shot.

I just kept walking around saying "what guts" for like the next 10 minutes. Unbelievable shot, at the end of the day though even if Kansas fouls you have at most a 3 point lead, and Kansas was heating up and gaining confidence at that point. An in flow open 3 for a good shooter might actually be easier than a free throw where you have time to think about everything going on and have all the pressure sitting squarely on you. So Ali figured I'll take this shot and go for the kill, I like the decision. I didn't expect it though, BIG time guts.
