I was shocked when Seth Davis said Northern Iowa is a very mediocre shooting team... and he gets paid to make comments like that.. not as bad as Vern I guess.
Re 'Major League', "I say, up yours, Seth Davis!!"
UNI kicked the poobahs at the NCAA and CBS in the cajones with their blitzkreig of the mighty J-Hawks. Redemption for the bogus 9 seed from the NCAA who hoped would wipe out a top 25 MVC team in the second round. Great for the Valley! Run the table UNI....
The MVC out to take out TV advertising on CBS during the next round of the NCAA's when UNI plays listing the Valley school's NCAA Tourney successes in the past 10 years by UNI, Creighton, Bradley, Southern Illinois, Wichita State. Aim it at high school players as a recruiting tool for the Valley....throw in athletic highlights from various former and current Valley players, with references to Valley players in the NBA, POB, Korver, etc. and get some EXPOSURE!! Use some of UNI's NCAA payout and other Valley Teams NIT payouts to help pay for the ads!!
Let's hope UNI can't cash in on their NCAA sweet 16 run with a slew of good recruits that will have them on top in the MVC out into the future.
Mid majors should propose to the NCAA mandatory home and home scheduling of mid majors by BCS and Big East teams if they want to qualify for at large bids in the tourney in the future! Need to strike while public sentiment is high for mid majors having success in the tourney and sympathy for getting shafted by the 4,5,6,7,8 place teams in the BCS conferences.
Now Verne Lundquist says Adam Koch is a 2-time MVC Player of the Year!?
When did he win the award before this year?
2010-Koch
2009-Woodfox
2008-Emmenecker
2007-Tatum
unbelieveable how unprepared and how many mistakes those guys made.
They had their 2 screwups in this game, and CBS also had one during the Murray State/Butler game. They stated that only 4 #13 seeds had ever made it to the Sweet 16, and then showed them...the last one was Bradley in 2002!!!! Really? 2002? They never corrected it...
THREE mid-majors already in the Sweet 16! I'm going to love listening to the talking heads explain it away.....or protest that we got (gasp!) six at-large teams in.
Actually the mids got eight at-large teams in. Even better!

Wow What a game I took my wife to the river boat in Bettendorf Iowa today. Gave her some change, and went directly to my favorite watering hole (SPORTS FANS) by 11:30. GREAT PLACE for food and cold BEER'S All (6) young lady barmaids Had some cold ones and watched the St.Marys game. Had some more cold ones and watched the Butler game. Then I watched the Northern Iowa game, had a bunch more cold beers with a lot of their fans. Met some good NIU fans who I told I was a BU fan, and they just had to buy me more cold ones after the great win I had a great time and my wife can vough for me on it Anyway what a great game NIU played And what about Farokhmanesh and the play of Egelseder. I for one thought Egelseder would get his lunch today by Aldrich, who I considered one of the best BIG MEN in college. Those 3 point shots by Egel. was just about more than the place could take. Then that last 3 point shot by Farokhmanesh that iced it, had to be one of the greatest I have ever seen as he could of pulled up and went for a set play shot. Unbelievable!
NOW, I ASK YOU HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO HAVE BIGS AT THE 4 and 5 THAT CAN PLAY AND WHAT IT DOES FOR THE GUARDS LOOK AT ST. MARYS, BUTLER AND NIU IN OTHER WORDS, A INSIDE/OUTSIDE GAME CAN MAKE A TEAM THE BETTER
He later said "last Valley team that won the conference tournament" as a qualifier for that.
When we were watching the game, we came up with Tulsa as the answer from back in the mid 90's when they went to the sweet 16 back to back years after winning in St. Louis. The two years SIU went to the sweet 16, Creighton was the conference tournament champion. SIU was the 2006 tournament champion when BU and WSU made it. Somebody other than Southwest Missouri State won the tournament in '99 when Steve Alford took them to the sweet 16 (CU would be my guess).
Edit: After being forced to look it up, Tulsa was not the answer.
