  • NIT - Are Big East & ACC Way Overrated?

North Carolina (and all their 5-Star players) playing at home against a lower seed needed all the help they could from a friendly set of refs who sent UNC to the FT line 26 times vs. just four times for William & Mary as UNC barely escapes with an extremely close home win 78-72 - but UNC didn't really lead for good until the final minute.

Seton Hall of the Big East - loses at home to a lower seed, Texas Tech 87-69

UConn barely edges out Northeastern 59-57

so where is the dominance of these so-called power conferences??

To be fair, UNC got to the line so much more frequently because they were way more athletic and were fouled going to the basket. W&M only stayed close by taking and making a lot of 3s.

You beat me to it...that's exactly what happened.

That's not a very close score, I don't know what your talking about.

well...every time there was a battle for a rebound the foul went to UNC....I agree with your analysis of the style of play, but a whole lot of contact was ignored when it was a W&M player getting hacked...and UNC actually made their comeback reaching over or around players and hacking to get a steal and a breakaway...

Texas Tech helped solidify my case that the Big 12 was easily the #1 conference this season.

Still hope UNI can somehow knock off the Jayhawks though in Round 2...

W&M beat Maryland and Wake Forest at home; they are no slouch.

                In the NCAA tourney!!

Agree that UNC seemed to get a few favorable calls down the stretch..like Love II taking off from just inside the 3 pt line, crashing into a defender who was planted....and the defender was called for a foul
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

Yeah, I saw both games tonight (UConn/NE game as well). Quite a show by W&M tonight (similar to our NIT team in 2007), but they just ran out of gas at the end. And agreed by that the refs in both games favored the BCS/home team.

Great finish in the Jacksonville-Arizona St. NIT game.... Jacksonville came back to win it with a 47% ft shooter, who had not scored in the game, hitting 2 fts to get it to 1 pt. Foul on the inbounds with just under 9 secs....ASU makes only 1 ft...up 2.....then the Jacksonville pt guard comes down and backs in a 3 with 1.9 left to win it!!!!

Yeah, I agree that parity is making these games a lot of fun to watch, especially the William & Mary three point show that went on tonight! Too bad that at least one of the CAA teams couldn't pull their games out tonight, but a great job by both of them playing in hostile environments against so-called "good" BCS teams.

OMG!!! I didn't even think to watch that game thinking it would be a blowout! I'll have to watch it tomorrow on Espn360.com.

Boy does tell you how rotten the Pac-10 was this year!

North Carolina currently has 7 McDonald All-Americans on the roster. Most teams would kill to get one.

Bradley had one of the more talented teams in The Valley as well. But it usually doesn't matter if the players don't compliment each other and the chemistry is bad. Carolina has the same problems that BU has..... They have no beef in the middle and lack consistent post play. Plus, their starting PG was a 3-year backup and their fresman PG just was not ready (he's a converted shooting guard).
