    This could have been Dana...

Actually, I read this article completely differently. I see it as the university's endorsement that Pelphrey is building the program the right way..... the way that they wanted it to be built...... with character and quality student-athletes.

From the Athletic Director John Long:

"I continue to believe Coach Pelphrey understands what it takes to build our program to the level of our high expectations and is working extremely hard to do so." Long said in a press release. "We have asked John and his staff to do more than win basketball games, we have asked them to build a program on and off the court of which our University and supporters can be proud.

"This process will take additional time."

    In addition:

"John (Pelphrey) has taken steps to bolster discipline and foster a recommitment to academics and character in our program," Long said. "He understands that the strength of a program is based on developing those traits in student-athletes on the basketball court, in the classroom and in life."

The last line from Arkansas' AD says it all:
"Coach Pelphrey also understands the University of Arkansas' commitment to athletic success specifically the importance of winning basketball games. He has embraced the history and tradition of Razorback Basketball since his arrival and feels a tremendous personal responsibility to return our program to the levels that we all desire on the court.

"We will continue to assist Coach Pelphrey and his staff as they work towards success in accomplishing all of these goals."

I read the meeting, plus the reference to the losing seasons, and the mention of firings, staff changes, and reassignments, and the issue of the hiring freeze...
..all as a hint that he the pressure is on to do better and then it states clearly...
"... some change was needed after the Razorbacks ended the season with six consecutive losses for the first time in school history. Arkansas finished the year 14-18 after going 14-16 in 2008-09."

it is obvious someone is not happy....the AD says...
"We have asked John and his staff to do more than win basketball games, we have asked them to build a program on and off the court of which our University and supporters can be proud."

Explains why Altman wasn't a good fit...

I know a little about this situation. Coach Pelphrey isn't going to be fired this year. The disaster that was this season for the Razorbacks started when Courtney Fortson was suspended for the first part of the season. Coach P took a stand and refused to let him play. Many Razorback fans and supporters know this and he will be around at least one more year.
He did something that some of us wish more coaches would do. He didn't put up with nonsense and suspended his leader. From all appearances Fortson has learned and the Razorbacks are primed for a good season next year.
You can't fault him for being a stand up coach.

And to think, when Molinari was let go, Pelphrey was the name I threw in the ring when Bradley did it's search for a new coach.

I have heard several people insist that a guy needs at least 4 or 5 years so he can get his own players. I'd say Pelfrey has at least one more year.

this rule is waived if you inherit 4 players or more who are Top 50 recruits...or if the players YOU bring in are arrested for rape and assault...

I didn't know there were rules.

What are the rules if you're a mid-major and you inherit 2 all-conference guards and an NBA forward?

that rule is void if those players refuse to play the new system or leave and claim they were treated like a slave

Is it reinstated if a national top 150 player is brought in the following year and the team is picked to finish 2nd in the league?
