Rick Majerus Speaks Out About Tournament Snub

Didn't make the NCAA, and didn't make the NIT...
He specifically cites Illinois State getting in with a weaker resume!!
Saint Louis is playing Indiana State in the CBI, and Rick Majerus thinks his team has been snubbed..

He says this...
"At one point, we're being mentioned as a (NCAA Tournament) bubble team, and then we're not an NIT team?"

"We beat Dayton twice and split with Rhode Island," Majerus said. "What did they do that we didn't?"
"SLU (20-11) was not among the 24 teams to get at-large berths to the 32-team NIT.
Dayton (20-12), a team SLU beat twice and which finished three games
behind SLU in the A-10 standings; Rhode Island (23-9), the fifth-place team
in the A-10; and Illinois State (22-10), the third-place team from the Missouri Valley Conference."


Maybe it was their woefully weak non-conference schedule where Belmont and Rockhurst may be their best non-conference wins..or their low RPI - almost 90 - but honestly they probably should have been in the NIT...

Majerus has a gripe. As TAS said in another thread, the NIT selections make the NCAA selections and seedings look golden. I can't recall more bias ever in a tournament than this year's NIT.

The NIT selection committee deserves to be absolved. All the vitrol and hatred we usually save for the NCAA committee needs to be directed there. I have never seen a worse job in my life.

But when their TV ratings spike because of their selections of Undeserving teams, they will be patted on the back... ESPN was the selection committee for the NIT, No way a sane person gives UNC a home game in this tourney. ESPN needs them to pump up the promos for the NIT.

I guess Dayton and RI have more pull East coast wise and that is why SLU is playing ISUblue. Heck for viewers sake ISUred have so many more alumni then SLU its a no brainer picking them over SLU. SLU has very little national recognition.

SLU was one of the 3 teams I had in the NIT but didn't make the cut. Of course, I also had the Birds out. Marshall and VCU may actually be the biggest NIT snubs, but I guess they just weren't going to take 4 CUSA teams.
