Don't count out the Bruce Pearl idea.....sure he's making millions at Tennessee, but if anything that puts him into a position that financially he can make any choice he wants now...........
Plus -- Iowa is apparently willing to pony up and get the best this time around...and Pearl knows at Tennessee he will always be in the back of the conference bus behind Kentucky, and he's even playing 2nd fiddle to Tennessee's women's basketball program....and in the middle of a lot of renegade controversy..
Some in Iowa and in Tennessee as well think he is ripe for a jump right now......plus, he has said plainly he's always wanted to coach in the Big Ten!!

Bruce Pearl has NEVER finished lower than third in any conference he has coached in and has been to a major postseason tournament in all but one year during his career. Iowa would be foolish NOT to mortgage their basketball future on this guy, IMO.

thus 7 of the 11 currently projected players will be forwards/centers....and you want even more??
You are going to be severely disappointed because I suspect your sentiment is NOT shared by our recruiters...

If our Bigs produce the way they're supposed to produce then we'll be OK..... Plus, let's face it, Les' offense is really geared toward a 3-4 g/f offense where these 3-4 players can function more as swingmen. I would argue that a big part of our problem has been lack of shooters. I think we really just need a "serviceable" big that can "erase" mistakes on defense and feed the ball back out to a shooter for an open 3. We have not really had that since POB; hopefully, Prosser, Egolf, Thompson, and our mystery signee can fill that bill.

Forget about two years from now! Next year all we need is a true 5 and this team can be special. We can always pick up a JUCOguard the following year if necessary. We do not have a real serviceable 5. WE may have played the 5 but can you honestly tell us here that he would not be all conference material at the 4. MK can also probably play the 3 because his D is definitely not made for banging.

Well, you can cross that one of your list...

I was listening to Steve Lavin on ESPNews break down UNI's win over Kansas and I decided to brush up on his background. Found this interesting tidbit on Wikipedia

"Due to the recent firing of University of Iowa Head Basketball Coach Todd Lickliter, many Iowa Hawkeye fans have expressed interest in Lavin becoming their next head coach. It is also important to note that the rest of the Hawkeye fan base think those fans supporting Steve Lavin may have a mild case of mental retardation or were dropped repeatedly as a child."

ESPN reporting that Cully Payne may want out..
The firing of Iowa coach Todd Lickliter has two former suburban hoops stars wondering about their collegiate futures.

I don't know about Brust, but Payne was quoted just three days ago saying that he is staying. To Pat Hardy of the Iowa City Press-Citizen:

Payne expressed optimism that all the players would stay at Iowa once things get sorted out. "Everyone is always asking ‘are you guys leaving?’" Payne said. "These are my boys. So no one is planning on going anywhere. "I think hearing from everybody we’re all just kind of waiting. No one’s taking off or anything like that. We’re just going to wait and see what happens."

It sounds like the AAU coach in the ESPN article took the I think hearing from everybody we’re all just kind of waiting part of the quote out of context.

It is now being reported that Fran McCaffrey, currently coach of Siena will be named Iowa's coach tomorrow.

P.S. Sorry for the duplicate post (also on coaching carousel thread)....I didn't see this thread until after I had posted in the other.

Iowa has convinced Fran McCaffery to leave Siena to become the Hawkeyes' new coach.
