  • Purdue-Minnesota

Huge game for Minnesota, Purdue has only scored 6 points with 3:04 left in the first half. The lowest point total in a half in the shot clock era is 6 by Northwestern!!

    31-6 Minnesota!

Purdue just made it to double digits at half with a last second shot, 37-11 Minnesota at half! I asked this earlier, with the win over Illinois at Illinois, does Minnesota pass up Illinois with a win today??

      No.

      Close, but no.

What this DOES do is open up a 6-bid Big 10 opportunity.

It's amazing how much different some teams look in their conference tournament games when it's one loss and your done. Purdue looked awful.
Minnesota outrebounded them in the first half 21-8, and Purdue shot 17.9% (5-29, 0-6 on threes), and Purdue made Minnesota's defense look like a team of NBA defensive specialists.

You think Minnesota is in with a win today, or do they have to win the Big 10 tournament outright? I do agree though that 6 bids is a strong likelihood now.

I honestly don't know. I'll redo my bubble later tonight and they're going to be within 2 spots of the cutline, on one side or the other.

Sounds good. Either way things are getting ugly in a hurry for Purdue. They are down 65-35 with 3:03 to go, and two more of Purdue's starters are out due to injuries. I wonder how that will effect their seeding.

The Illini will be either a 10, 11, or 12 seed. One of those

Rick - if they get in, you are smoking crack if you think they are gonna get a 10. Maybe an 11 cause they would have to move them up from a 12 to avoid a matchup for some reason. But really - 12 is what they would be, and they would then advance to the Sweet 16.

Well, Joe Lunardi has Minnesota in and Illinois out right now. I thought Minnesota would pass them if they won, but I guess we will see for sure tomorrow. My Illini friend kept insisting if they won against Wisky they were in, and I said no they have to beat OSU with all the bids being stolen. Looks like I may have been right. Minnesota winning was a killer too.

I had to put the hype out there. We've been told that other coaches read our site so I had to know the selection committee was reading it too. Honestly I lost $40 on that no pick and interestingly it was a bet with my Illini friend who is just as much a big time Illini fan as I am Bradley, I guess he was just more realistic than me. The bet was made earlier in the year, I wish I too would have been more realistic earlier in the year. But if they would have simply beat Minnesota at home, they would have been in and Minnesota out. Interesting to see how these things come down to one or two key games per year. Hopefully the Braves will not lose any home games next season and get back to the good old days.... I'm not going to get caught up in any summer time hype this year, well maybe....
