Whew! Illinois survives 58-54 over Wisconsin. This should be enough to get them into the NCAA Tournament, but l don't think they passed the "eye test" towards the end of the game!

They never had a double digit lead against Bradley like Lavin said, at least not that I remember.

Also the fact that a 19-14 record is "a lock" to get in the tourny if they lose tomorrow is a joke. If their name wasn't Illinois they wouldn't be near a lock, their RPI and SOS are high, they played inconsistent all year and poor down the stretch. They also practically gave that game away when they needed it most. I think WSU should get more consideration if UofI is a lock. The eye test thing is a big joke to get the big boys in.

They were very inconsistent. Perhaps there needs to be a measure of that as an unqualifier. Not sure the full validity, but BW, on the SCORE the other day mentioned that the Illini are top 4 in the nation in terms of the number of wins vs top 20 RPI teams. I do not think there is a question the Illini could pull upsets, but are they really going to bring their best basketball to the NCAA's?

I believe they got really lucky in this area. They beat Wisky and Michigan State without maybe their best players. They beat Vandy when they weren't as good. I'll give them credit for the comeback against Clemson on the road, and Wisky today (although they played their worst game of the year and it wasn't because of Illinois), but that is it. They also lost at home a lot.

If you really start breaking the Illini down, they have had a lot break their way this year, as much as they have tried to shoot themselves in the foot. They have had 0 real injuries this year....how many teams can say that??

And the fact that they won 10 games in a BCS Conf and finished 5th. I know, not enough in some people's eyes. However, no way the NCAA pisses off Delaney and the conference after this win.

                  As of right now...

UIUC is 72 in the RPI (after beating Wisky today)

                  UIUC's top 50 RPI Wins:
                  #20 vs Wisky
                  #20 at Wisky
                  #22 Vandy
                  #24 Mich St
                  #33 at Clemson

Vandy plays #99 Georgia today, a loss could drop them out of the top 25.
Mich St plays #74 Minnesota, a loss might drop them out of the top 25.

                    Illini 58 - Badgers 54
Tisdale, McCamey, & DJ have good games, Wisconsin shot very poorly...
Hard to believe Wisconsin shot 28.6% and Illinois shot 52.5%, yet the game went right down to the wire...
Illini turned the ball over too much......

Watching the Big East Tournament last night it said that Illinois was one of the last 4 in. I think this win may have solidified their berth. That will be 3 NCAA teams that we have beat this year!

That was almost as satisfying as finding a $2 bill on the sidewalk.

Listening to those young men speak explains much.

I am glad they won I thought B Weber coached a good game all but the last two Min's. I just did not understand WAY you would have the ball in Tisdales hands so much If he Weber wanted him in the game, you would think he would have had him parked under the basket, not down court, taking a inbound pass's in a corner with them pressing Also he had Cole and Davis playing to. You think Weber would of had guards in there when they started pressing them and with the lead
Anyway this locks them in the dance. I am glad for a lot of reasons. It would of been embarrassing to have NO Illinois team in the big one We have two P town kids playing And I am happy for Bruce Weber. who is a good coach and what he has done with this Young Team

Yeah IMO illinois will peak next year...and maintain it with all the kids they have coming in.

This game started to remind me of Illinois Arizona in 2005....

And if you think Bradley has had such a roller coaster year and you can't stand it....be glad you aren't an Illini fan. (Their rollercoaster goes up twice as high and tickles your stomach twice as much)
