  • Another Illini player in trouble?

A new problem for Bruce Weber and the Illini basketball team.

Illinois senior Rich McBride was ticketed for DUI and improper lane usage on 9/29/06. It has not yet been reported by any media or web site, yet. I find that very strange. But considering how everything was handled with his criminal offense a couple yers ago, we shouldn't be surprised.

Here is the only place the information is available--

Choose Traffic division, then enter Last name:McBride, First name:Richard and click Name Search.
Or enter either of these case numbers: 06TR24822 or 06DT00660

It will be interesting to see how Bruce Weber handles this situation. This obviously, is not the first embarrassing legal issue McBride has been involved with.
Looks like McBride is doing well! He was driving a silver 2006 Chrysler. I don't recall too many college kids who could afford such a nice car when I was in college.

Since McBride was involved in the break ins a couple years ago, will BW be severe in punishing him?
Or are they so shallow at guard, that he'll get another slap in the wrist?

I predict a 14 game suspension, which includes exhibition games. This gets him back for the Braggin Rights game with Mizzou on Dec 19th, so basically a 2 month suspension.

I think this will send a strong message to him.

I predict he'll play against BU.

Since charges were not filed in the robbery case a few years ago, this will be considered a first time offense in the eyes of the law.

He will get a slap on the wrist from the law - court date set for Oct 30th.

BW, RG, WR, and RH (the 4 making a decision on RMcB's future with the program) will feel he has been hit hard enough and paid his debt to society. I expect they will only give him a 1-2 game suspension (most likely exhibition games) and be ready to roll.

Wow, I would think that a DUI will weigh more heavily, especially with a repeated offender in the eyes of the Illini program, even if it's a first time offense in the eyes of the law. If he got a four game suspension for a no charge robbery incident, why would he only get one or two for a DUI?

I might be wrong, but I don't think Weber will just ignore this and let it go away with a slap on the wrist.

here's a link to a blog from one of the Illini beat writers, Mark Tupper. He'd have the most up to date and insider info, and it does NOT sound like a slap on the wrist is coming.

Jamar Smith is gonna have a huge chance to step up.

                  Thanks for the link RWTF.

                  Interesting read from Tupper.

As for Tupper's opinion on McB's harsh future, I will not believe it til I see it.

No problem on the link. Personally, I think McBride deserves to be suspended until about Christmas. He's acted pretty foolishly, you can chalk one time up to being young and dumb, but now it's starting to be a recurring problem.

This is definitely not good behavior, but there have been numerous cases recently of players arrested in bar fights, driving with cocaine in their car, and beating up girlfriends.
Although quite bothersome, I would rank a DUI a little further down the scale of seriousness.
