As I don't believe O'Rear will be back...

Looks good enough to compete top 3 for me...Just compare to other teams returning....

I expect Wichita to be the team to beat though...
Did anyone say that Lucas is starring at a pro baseball contract?

I'll be surprised to see Ben Jacobson stays at UNI. He's very young and proven and those type of guys usually get called on pretty quick. I could see him getting a call from Oregon. I guess we'll see in a few weeks anyway. Oregon is a very attractive program right now, with the new facilities and with Nike as a huge donor to the program.

Calling it as I see it...

        1. WSU - Obvious favorite.
        2. UNI - Don't kid yourself...they'll still contend.
        3. CU - Altman will lead them back to contention with most of the team returning.
        4. MSU - Learn to win on the road and they might even finish higher.
        5. BU - Middling team until they find a better inside game.
        6. InSU - Will be better, but so will most others.
        7. UE - Hoping confidence gained late this season carries over.
        8. IlSU - Big dropoff as they lose the most in the league.
        9. SIU - Learn to close out games and they might move up.
        10. DU - Likely no worse than this season, but that won't be good enough to avoid the basement.

          2. BU

Don't see UNI in 2nd. Flip BU and UNI is about right......we showed we can beat CU by 19 without a center...I can't see them being better than us next year.

EDIT: I guess this list has nothing to do with who is better...just where we finish....so maybe I agree!

I agree with his order for the most part. I would also flip UNI and BU.

At this point I would say:

            1-WSU
2-BU (First if we get a big man)

            3-MSU
            4-CU

            5-UNI
            6-In. St.
            7-Evansville
            8-SIU

            9-IL. St.

            10-Drake

Top 4 are really good (especially top 2), top 8 are all decent to pretty good, ISU red is average, and Drake at the bottom is below average.

I beleive WSU, UNI, CU and MSU are going to be at the top one way or another, can't beleive SIU is going to stay in its current funk long and as to BU, I'm tired of listening to all the pundits that keep singing the virtues of this program so I agree we're a middling team and we'll probably be lucky to stay there - a good scheduler though. Now being in the middle may not be all that bad because I beleive the MVC to be a lot stronger than their being credited with! And maybe a new BU athletics program "vision" will give us a lift toward the top I hope so but change always produces delays and takes time!

Somehow I think that I.S.U. (red) will stay out of the play-in-game next year. They seem to gel about mid-season. But without a point guard, not sure if they will be in the top half of the Valley.

At this point, next season will be very hard to predict IMO. (Just look at our team!)

ISU (blue) and SIU could be anywhere from #4 to #9.
Will Dana get the most out of his players and return to an NCAA tournament team? or remain avg.?
How will EU respond after a strong end to the season?
How good will BU be with a legit 5? (hopefully they will get one)
                Which coaches will stay?
Will MSU learn to win road games to contend with WSU?

Someone brought up Lucas O'Rear's baseball prowess earlier and since this is a UNI thread, I thought I would share this....

"O??™Rear also loves baseball, and that??™s where his future may lie.

A right-handed reliever with a fastball that can hit 90 mph, he struck out 15 batters in 17 1/3 innings for the Panthers last spring ??” the program??™s final season because of budget cuts. O??™Rear had a limited stint with the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League, a summer circuit for college players.

O??™Rear hasn??™t decided whether he??™ll pursue a career in baseball, though he intends to explore that possibility."

Here's the rest of the article...

a 90 mph fastball is not going to impress the scouts...he has to work on it..
I suggest he quit basketball and start training with a pitching coach or just transfer to BU where he can play baseball!

Haha, I just played out that proposal in my head and it was hard to snap back to reality. He seems like he might be one of the most fun guys to play with in the league.

When asked which mid-major could do some damage in the tourny on ESPN, Doug Gotlieb said he likes Nothern Iowa as they have won the Valley regular season and tourny twice in a row and returned all 5 starters. He said teams their second time around tend to do much better.

Yeah - but will they get enough respect to not get a #8 seed?
Bracketology has them #8 - not that I follow that much.
They deserve a #6 seed IMO.

That's the problem, I believe they could be Sweet 16 team if they get the right seed, but I don't see them beating a 1 seed in round 2 as an 8 or 9. I agree 6 is what they should be, but the selection committee probably doesn't want a Valley team to have a shot at the Sweet 16. Either way their frustrating defense and slow pace will be tough for some of these BCS run and gun teams.

i never dismiss creighton. in fact i think being a #4 seed was this worst since 1996. so they seem to almost always finish in the upper 3rd.

altman still is the best coach in the league, imo.

Watching a Ben Jacobson team and not putting him on top right now is pretty hard. His guys from top to bottom look pretty well prepared to run his game plan. JL also did a pretty good number on DA.
