Disappointing end

I am disappointed in how little we were able to get done against a bigger, stronger, more physical UNI team. They looked like the team that was supposed to win, and we looked like the team that was supposed to lose.

I am also really surprised we never made any kind of run. That's what disappointed me the most, I think.

Chuck was saying post game that it wasn't a lack of effort and that he'd take that effort any day. Well, if our effort was really that good, then we are a very bad team to get beat by 17 and only score 40 points.

Here's to hoping that we somehow land Wilkins (start drinking the kool-aid) or that we stumble upon a decent big. I have been really critical of the Sled dog, but it's not fair criticism. His ceiling just isn't that high.

If we had Wilkins this year, and he had some time to practice with the team (and even play some) then I would think of BU has one of the favorites next year. But without any really good BIG on the horizon, and no prospects that I'm aware of, next year will be better, instead of a 5th place finish, perhaps a 2nd, or 3rd place finish.

Thoughts?

There are ways for an undersized team to get some advantage against a bigger team. Unfortunately, whether it was because of tiredness or whatever, we didn't do a good job at it today. They needed to be quicker with cutting and passing, and they needed to have a good outside shooting game.
Yes, there were a large number of long rebounds that seemed to fall right into UNI's hands for offensive rebounds, and Bradley missed an inordinate number of layups, but UNI was just the better, more consistent team today.

Yeah...Anything that could have gone wrong today, did. We got no breaks, almost no loose balls, so many long rebounds...and they guarded the heck out of us. They defend so well, and with Sammy essentially taken out of the game, many had to tep up, and no one was able.

And why did Taylor only play 20 minutes? I know he was as ineffective as anyone, but, he is one of our best scorers.

It's funny...we were outscored 18-2 to start both games in the tourney. And then TB came in. If it's for discipline's sake, maybe we shouldn't keep disciplining TB. ;-)

Well the effort was there in that we had a host of open layups and three point shots that did not go down. Plus we played well defensively holding UNI to under 60 points. If we make even less than half of those bunnies this game is much, much closer.

A lack of effort would be us giving up 80 points and throwing bricks up to the basket from 20 feet out. We didn't do that. I think the problem is we tense up when shooting and/or rush shots. Attribute that to nerves and/or to players thinking they need to take over the game. If we work on these issues over the summer this team will go places next year. But we can't use nerves or lack of communication as an excuse next year, not with the veteran team we have coming back.

Don't think I missed any of the many reasons cited this year by posters for a team with great coaching and superior talent vs the rest of the MVC to go 9-9 and 16-15, good for T-5th in the MVC and a T-5th in the MVC Tourney.

Okay AZ BU Fan, we got it! We know you are not a fan of the current regime. Guess what? I still stand by what I said about this team next year. If we are stagnant again next year, then we can meet at this time in a year and discuss what needs to be done. This year though I did not expect the NCAA Tournament, and we were only 3 very close losses away from the NIT. In my opinion, that's not too much ground to make up. And I think we could be even better than NIT as well.

Let's wait until the end of next year before we decide to throw Les out to the curve.

I think most "reasonable" people agree with you Bravesfan..... I know I do. :)

Thanks! :) I try to bring a little sanity on here when things go bad. If Les did such a bad job and warrants a job dismissal, then by the same logic, so does Roy Williams and Dana Altman.

I know those two coaches had a down year this year, but that should never happen to them! ;)

Roy and Dana have never finished top 3 in their league?????

Wow.... it's ridiculous to compare Jim Les to Dana Altman. It's unfathomable to compare Jim Les to Roy Williams. This Bradley team is incredibly mediocre and it will be more of the same next year. More excuse will be made next year.... maybe then the great Jim Les will be shown the door. Well, at least we have memories of the Sweet Sixteen a few years ago.

Who exactly said those things?

you can say what you want about making your own opportunities, but even some UNI fans nearby commented on how many odd bounces, and loose balls simply fell right into the hands of UNI players.

Bradley fans are starting to sound like Cub fans with their "wait till next year" approach. I feel like that has been said every year for the last 3 seasons.

I'm so sick of wasting my time in STL every year...

I thought it humorous the number of different reasons posters put out every time BU lost a game this year. The 'whatever' one was my personal favorite.

From preseason posts BU should be very successful this year since they returned the most offense in the MVC this year, to, just wait until the season is over before commenting on BU MBB coaching performance (which apparently isn't the case if the comment isn't positive), posts can be funny when looked at in retrospect.

In all fairness, I never said Bradley was an NCAA Tournament team this year. NIT, yes. I expected that, but unfortunately we did not get there. But we were maybe three 1 or 2 point losses away from an NIT birth and an 11-7 conference record, so I do think we are very close. It should not take a huge additional amount of effort for this team to get to the next level next year though.

Sounds exactly like what we were hearing last year.

Thats ONE way to look at it but how many 1 or 2 point wins were we away from being a play in team? Those "close" games can swing BOTH ways.

In the end you ARE what your record says you are.......
