  • Logic in MVC All Conference Voting

The people who were voted for the All-MVC teams were supposed to vote for individual players.

Not so according to the logic expressed by a media guy who voted from SIU...
    He says:
"I turned in my all-conference ballot today, and I was struck by how difficult
it was to choose from so many good players in the league. Keep in mind that
I am not allowed to vote for SIU's players.
    My first team consisted of:
    Adam Koch, UNI
    Dinma Odiakosa, ILS
    Osiris Eldridge, ILS
    Clevin Hannah, WSU
    Kenny Lawson Jr., CU

My theory has always been to reward the top teams with these picks,
and not rely totally on stats."

so when voting for the individual player awards, it's his idea that he has to "reward the top teams" - even though he says it's the players he needs to pick. He contradicts himself by picking Young and Weems
(two players from teams with losing records at the bottom of the MVC)
on the 2nd team ahead of players like Warren, Ahelegbe, or Murry.
    Then he says:
"Maniscalco was one of three players from Bradley's team I considered. It
was hard to pick from between him, Andrew Warren and Taylor Brown. ..
Warren and Brown are both solid talents and would probably be on the
    second team in most years."

So he admits leaving TB and AW off because Maniscalco is already on his list. Makes no sense.

    T -

This is my issue with these awards. When I completed my MVC Awards article, I got taken to the cleaners by some people (mostly UNI fans) because I left Koch off the list. I just don't think he was one of the 10 best players in the league this year.

The POY has been, at least recently, the best player off one of the best teams. I think that's ridiculous. Was Booker Woodfox the best player in the league last year? I'd argue no. He was great on offense, but the rest of his game wasn't good.

How about Adam Emmenecker a few years ago? I'm not saying points are everything, but when was the last time a Valley POY was the 5th-leading scorer on his own team? This list could go on and on...

I knew Panther Nation was going to rip me to shreds, but I just don't think Koch was that good of an [B]individual player[B] to warrant the POY award.
Don't putt until the cup stops movin'

I agree..but whatever criteria you can possibly claim for Emmenecker or Woodfox or Koch, you'd have to grant
that Maniscalco has 10 times over....not only does he have the numbers....he also has ALL the intangibles.
If you wanna really know how hard he played yesterday I will tell you something by PM that'll blow you away..

...in a way it is something other conferences might argue shows weakness in the Valley if the best player
averages little more than 12 pts/4 rebs!!
