UNI's Ben Jacobson out for possibly a year!

Ben Jacobson was drafted in the 6th round of the CBA Tuesday.
He had just finished his career at Northern Iowa as the 3rd
leading scorer all time with 1,787 points.

But Ben has just found out some very tough news...........

First, his back has been hurting him so much, that he has had a
very hard time staying healthy and has not gotten any
acceptable opportunity to play overseas yet.

Second, in trying to get to the bottom of all his back pain, he
has learned he has a severely herniated disc in his lumbar
spine, and that it will require surgery almost immediately.

He cannot play ball with his back the way it is, but if he goes
ahead with the surgery, there is no guarantee as to when he
will recover enough to play, and it might be a year or more.

But he has decided on the surgery, and underwent the
operation Yesterday morning (Friday).

Good luck to Ben, hopes for a speedy recovery.
Perhaps one of the UNI readers of our board can fill us in if
they know more.

I like Ben Jacobson. He is not only the epitome of class but as tough as they come.
Wonder how much the back may have been bothering him last season. Still nothing about Ben's surgery on the panthernation board, but according to an article in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier Ben did have his back surgery Friday morning after the MRI Thursday showed a completely destroyed lumbar disc.
There was a mention on the radio but not sure why it's being kept quiet on the message board.
