  • Bradley Women win 58-55

    Bradley Braves story....

Junior Raisa Taylor (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) celebrated her birthday by turning in her third career double-double as she collected 19 points and 11 rebounds to help Bradley to a 58-55 victory over Wichita State Thursday at Lorene Ramsey Gym.

First off Happy Birthday Raisa. The Braves exploded out of the gates in this one and led by a lot but when WSU started to press, the game started getting closer. Second half opened the same as the first with Bradley getting to a good sized lead only to see it disappear and the game turn into a nail biter at the end. Credit to WSU though, made 9 threes tonight and I don't believe they are usually a three point shooting team but I could be wrong about that.

Looking at the standings, it looks like with 1 game left that the Braves can't finish any worse than 4th, but they will need some help to get higher in the standings. If my math is right, I believe the Braves can only finish as high as 3rd because of MSU's victory tonight. Tiebreakers are confusing but if Creighton loses at home to Indiana St. and the Braves beat Missouri St. on Saturday, then the Braves will move to 3rd while Missouri St. stays at 2nd and Creighton drops to 4th. This would be huge for the Braves as after the first round game they would have to play Illinois St. which has been a death sentence for anybody not named Creighton this year in conference play.

I know the focus is on the guys right now and their tourney, but when the guys advance to Saturday, if you can't get the game on tv, you can head to ICC and watch the Braves final "home" game against MSU at 2pm. It is Senior Night or Senior Afternoon I guess and Jenny Van Kirk and Renee Frericks will be honored before the game.

On a more somber note, the injury bug has bitten Bradley again but this time on the Women's side. During the game at Illinois St., point guard Hanna Muegge was injured and tore her ACL and had a partial tear of her MCL and a lateral bone bruise so she will miss the rest of the season.

Sophomore guard Hanna Muegge (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during the second half of Bradley's game at I-74 rival Illinois State last Thursday. Muegge also suffered a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament and a lateral bone bruise.

Tough luck Hanna. Get well and come back strong next year.
