Go Bulldogs! My daughter goes to Drake, so I was hoping tomorrow afternoon's session would be a Drake/BU doubleheader. Fun stuff!
We were in Des Moines last weekend and saw Drake lose at home to Evansville -- on senior day. Ouch! I'm glad Josh Young got the winning basket tonight. He seems like a real good kid and has a great career.
Last note: We've been talking a lot about mascots. In addition to Spike the mascot bulldog, Drake at home also has a real bulldog. When Drake takes the floor before the game, they roll a basketball and the dog follows it out and across the court to lead them out.
I'm pulling for a Drake-BU game on Saturday. I'll bring two hats to tomorrow's session, but on Saturday I'll only wear the red one.Yajusneverno!

I am amazed at how SIU ended the year with such a thud over the last month. This game is typical of how their season went, not all too different as to how our season has transpired, except that we did better during the conference season. They had a good lead most of the way, but lost it at the very end. I would not be surprised if some fans will be looking for a coaching change there. But Lowery has shown himself to be an excellent coach, and if I were them, I would definitely give Lowery another year or two to see if he can make a run with his own team. I have a feeling SIU will be VERY tough to beat next year!

Drake was 10-25 from three in the game (21-46 overall), SIU was just 1-9 from three, 25-56 overall. SIU also was just 10-21 on FTs. SIU did outrebound Drake 40-26.

Dillard must have been hampered........
He didn't start and played just 24 minutes...
Recall how Tony Freeman got a lot of preseason publicity...
was named one of the top transfers in the nation, and people picked him as preseason 1st Team All Conference and Newcomer of the Year....
Some suggested he and Jake Kelly would be stepping down a couple notches by playing in the Valley and their BIG TEN talent level would just eat up the opposition...
Tony Freeman was 0-5 from 3pt, and 4 pts, no assists, while his two counterparts (shooting guards for Drake, Josh Young & Ryan Wedel) were essentially the players of the game, going 6-9 from 3pt and totalling 33 points between the two of them.
maybe the level of play in the Missouri Valley isn't that far from what Iowa plays?

Use Matt Roth for example (again, only an example). Would he help Bradley? Probably. But to think he would come to the Hilltop and me a major difference maker would be quite a stretch I think.

Agreed, but any starter from Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan State, etc. would be very good players in the MVC.Thinking is the hardest work, that is why so few people do it. -Henry Ford
Yeah...I've been in college for a while now and I'm pretty sure that awesomest is not a word. -Andrew E.

Very disappointing game from an SIU perspective obviously. We controlled that game for 35 minutes, and had 2 double digit leads in the 2nd half but couldnt finish. John Freeman missed a dunk that would have put us up 12, but instead Drake comes down and fires a 3 to make it a 5 point swing. That being said, we deserved to lose. A team cannot shoot 10-21 from FT and 1-9 from 3's while Drake was 10-25 from 3 and expect to win.
Whoever said we could be tough next year depends on the coach. I really hope Lowery isnt the coach next year as he has taken a team on the verge of the Elite Eight three years ago to 9th place in the MVC and losing in the play-in games. Im really bitter still about last night and the season, especially when Lowery threw Tony Freeman under the bus after his last game as a college player. It is best if SIU and CLo part ways.
That being said, good luck to Bradley and beat the piss out of Creighton!
