I would have voted for Indiana State's Kevin McKenna. No argument though from me with Ben Jacobson though."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

Kind of a stretch to give the COY award to Jacobsen; UNI was defending MVC champions with all starters back.....
I am shocked, shocked, to see them in first place again. Apologies to 'Casablanca'.....
I would have thought WSU Coach Marshall was deserving of COY as the Shockers had the biggest improvement vs preseason expectations of any team in the MVC. He has taken a team which was 8-10 two years ago to 12-6and second place...BUilding for the Future

Did anyone else notice the voting-
2010 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year Voting
Coach, School......... 1st... 2nd... 3rd... Total
Ben Jacobson, UNI......................35.......... 3............ - ........... 111
Kevin McKenna, Indiana State.......4...........19..........12............ ..62
Gregg Marshall, Wichita State........1............11..........16.......... ...41
Cuonzo Martin, Missouri State.......--.............4............8.............16
Tim Jankovich, Illinois State...........--.............3............3...............9
Marty Simmons, Evansville...........--.............--...........1................1
Coaches received 3 points for a first-place vote, two points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.
I have no problem with the distribution of votes, except for one. What the heck was one voter thinking when he voted Marty Simmons a 3rd place vote? I am sure even Marty would be embarrassed to see his name getting a 3rd place vote, when his team was buried in last place since the opening of the season. I don't think any coach should get credit for coaching when his team is as bad as Evansville was this year. And it's not like Marty Simmons just walked into that job this year and can blame an empty cupboard or blame the previous coach anymore. He was named coach back in early 2007, so this was his third full season.
If going 9-20 (3-15) in your 3rd season (with a horrible non-conference SOS) gets you votes for COY, then Jim Les should have been COY for his 13-15 record in his 3rd year.

hey - anyone remember when the Athlon preseason guide came out and the Valley section was written by the Creighton beat writer,
and he actually played Creighton up as the best team in the league and they were going to beat out UNI??
