  • MVCT games start tonight

    The Saluki's hope they can pull off what Bradley is the only team to accomplish- making it out of the play-in round and winning at least 2 games.
    Bradley in 1998 won a play-in game, and advanced to the semifinals. They remain the only team in the history of the MVC to do so.
    See paragraph 5-

    I'm surprised that a play-in team has not won the Valley tournament yet. I have seen I want to say Arkansas in the SEC several years ago winning four games to take the auto bid there, and someone from the Big Ten over the past decade doing the same thing.

    With the parity in the middle of the Valley this year, I would not put it past a Missouri St. or even SIU to pull this off. Not likely though as I had picked in the Andy Katz thread the CU/BU winner or ISU to win the whole thing.

      This may be common knowledge to some, but I don't know the answer: who is the lowest seed to win Arch Madness and what year did this occur??

        The lowest seeds to win the MVC tournament were;
        Indiana State, seeded #5 in 2001
        Creighton, seeded #4 in 2000
        Six #3 seeds have won- CU (2005), Tulsa (1996), SIU (1995), SIU (1994), MSU (1992), and WSU (1985).
        13 times it's been won by the #2 seed
        12 times it's been won by the #1 seed

        Lots of good info about the tournament and past history here-

                  I thought Bradley was due--which it is--but Wichita has an even longer drought than Bradley (by one year). And the Aces have never won.

                  Why not this year be the year the Braves end the MVC Tourney drought?

                    I'm not surprised really. When you think about it if they are in the play in then they don't have good records and doubtful if they have won 4 in a row during the season with rest and preperation. To win 4 in a row against teams with better conference records is a monumental task in my opinion unless there a was key player with an injury during the season and comes back for the tourney

                      It looks like the majority of tournament winners have been #2 and #3 seeds over the past two decades. And notice the four years in which the top seed won the Valley tournament since the mid 90's have all been one bid years for the Valley.

                      I think the Valley knows how to "crack the code". They just need to go back to that philosophy this year!
