  • Maryland - Duke game tonight

What a game and a real classic. It was a game what college ball is about. Love him or hate him but Gary Williams can coach and his team really takes on his fiery personality. One thing I wish is that we could see JL show is a bit of more passion on the side line. We know it is in him but rarely do we get to see it.

After Vaquez hit that running bank (I think it was after this...)

A timeout was called and it showed him pointing at the crowd and yelling...

I swore his lips read..."That is what I am talking about! We are going to win this motherf***ing game. This motherf***ing game is ours."

Something the that nature...and they kept showing that scene up close. I thought it was funny...

ok...he can coach...but it sure doesn't hurt when your starting lineup is comprised of

--a 24 year old, experienced senior, came from a top prep school and was the best player on the #9 ranked high school team nationally and was a 4-Star coming out of HS.

--a 4-Star soph who was the #60 ranked player in the nation in his high school class who was Mr. Basketball in Maryland

--another senior 1000 pt scorer at Maryland who was an all stater as a high schooler

--another Mr. Basketball (from CT), 4-Star recruit, who averaged 36 ppg as a HS senior and

--yet another (23 year old) senior who came from Oak Hill Prep and who was a 4-Star

and the first 3 guys off the bench are all TOP 100 recruits, who are now juniors

so of his top eight players, all but one are top 100 prospects....
don't you think that has something to do with Maryland's success?

Sounds like Williams can not only coach but he can recruit too.

He also forgot to mention the Freshman big who is really contributing now! I also guess he did not watch the game. The atmosphere was what it should be about. The college student and players.

I can personally attest that Maryland gets the absolute best fan support of any team at the ACC Tournaments each year. Their fans are crazy and very loyal....... of course, they are also rude and obnoxious a-holes, IMO. But I think that's just a "Maryland thing"

Saw this game and had a question. Late in the 2nd half a Duke shot and missed. It resulted in a long rebound that tipped off a players hands and went into the backcourt. Duke got the rebound but was whistled for an over and back violation. When the ball was tipped nobody gained possession. Is this the right call?

It's a U of Maryland thing because most of their students seem to be from New Jersey! Also, if you look at where their students sit you will see an arena where they are really involved. My brother goes to a few games every year, thanks to a friends corporate tickets and they sit where they should sit, behind the students. Create the atmosphere and they will come. Even when they are not doing so well they sell out the student section.

I saw it differently! The Duke player shot the ball, long rebound was touched by a Duke player not a Maryland player so yes it was the right call. Old Rat face sure thought it should have been called his way. He usually gets the calls.

College Park Maryland is not in the best of areas outside of DC This is not the first time it has happened there. It also happens in a lot of other large universities. I'm surprised no one brought out their couch to burn. Also I for one would never mess with Maryland cops. They are the closest thing to running a fascist like police state in the USA. The Greater Republic of Maryland!

Thanks. When I saw it happen I could not tell what player tipped the ball. Would it have made a difference if a Maryland guy tipped the ball? Even if no one had possession?

If a Maryland player tipped it then it would have been Duke's ball.
