amazing...and I hope John Wilkins reads this...
but as bad as Indiana is and as badly as they need players even though they look to be certain cellar dwellers for a long time to come...
their fans are trashing John Wilkins as a long term project and they want no part of him.....
Indiana just fired an assistant coach. Not sure if he was the recruiting lead on Wilkins or not, but I think he was the recruiting coordinator. Might affect Wilkins some.
Though there has been some doubt and rumors to the contrary, the AD at Iowa State has issued a statement that Greg McDermott will return as head coach next year-
ABC 5 is reporting on their website that Greg McDermott will in fact return next season as Iowa State's head basketball coach. Time to put the rumors to rest.
Iowa State's athletic director Jamie Pollard has issued this statement to Iowa State donors regarding the state of the athletic department.
From Jamie Pollard, AD at Iowa State- Unfortunately, one of the key elements in that competitive success – men’s basketball – has not experienced the same level of on-court success as many of our other programs. The competitive performance of our men’s basketball program has been both disappointing and frustrating. Some fans have suggested that we make a change in the leadership of our men’s basketball program. It is important to understand that many factors are considered when deciding who gets the privilege and honor to be an Iowa State head coach. Certainly, competitive success is an important measure. However, so are the personal character and integrity of our coaches and the performance of our student-athletes in the classroom and in public. Although we have not yet won games at the level we all desire, Coach McDermott and his staff have exhibited exemplary character and integrity and our men’s basketball student-athletes have performed admirably in many areas. As a result, I remain fully committed and supportive of Coach McDermott and his staff. Our department will continue to provide the necessary resources for our men’s basketball program to be competitive in this league and nationally so that we can achieve the goals we have outlined for our department. As investors in our athletics program – through season ticket purchases and/or donations to the Cyclone Club – we felt it was important to communicate directly to you about our men’s basketball program.

The statement, "As a result, I remain fully committed and supportive of Coach McDermott and his staff." would be a "kiss of death" if it had come from an NBA, NFL, or MLB owner.
Does anyone ever talk to Les? It seems to me that Les ought to know if Wilkins is still interested or still committed. I don't understand why it's such a secret. Les ought to know one way or another. If Wilkins doesn't want to come to Bradley he should let Les know. Yes or no don't leave everyone hanging. As far as I'm concerned, Wilkins means success or failure for next year. It's a lot of pressure on him but that's how I see it. I don't see Bradley getting anyone else good enough to make an impact.
Jim Les is prohibited from discussing anyone who has not signed a Letter of Intent...
so it doesn't matter if anyone has talked with Coach Les - he wouldn't even answer the question...
I don't see Bradley getting anyone else good enough to make an impact.
Are you on the coaching staff? There have been plenty of years where the public had no idea what was going on with recruiting and we were able to land serviceable players in the spring. Da Coach seems to think we are in good shape with big man, so I hope you are mistaken.
DSE and Eastman made an impact this year. I expect Prosser to have a huge impact next year. While I feel like the coaches need to go out and get a big man, I have no doubt that they can bring in impact players.

Thats because you have no idea who BU is recruiting or who is interested in Bradley.
I am certain you said the exact same thing when Andrews, Wright, O'Bryan, Wilson, Franklin etc etc etc all were signed... they will never make an impact, all before seeing one of those play one single minute.
Face it, unless you are in high school/JUCO gyms nightly, at AAU events none of us really have a clue... very few knew that DSE would bring the game he has brought to BU and I would bet even those who saw all kinds of Washington High School were surprised with his growth and maturity as a basketball player.
Point is you me and likely everyone else on here have no clue if anyone will make an impact.
a brand new premium Rivals article on John Wilkins has a whole lot more details...but here are just a few quotes...
but there's a lot more.......
"... 6-foot-9 forward John Wilkins, a versatile forward from the country of
Belgium who came to the United States to play some summer AAU basketball.
The son of former NBA player Jeff Wilkins surfaced this winter at
Southeastern Iowa Community College.
It's been a tough road for Wilkins to see the court in real competition. He
committed to play for Bradley last summer but the NCAA ruled him ineligible..
...the NJCAA decided to one up everybody and declare him ineligible for the
whole year. So he has just been practicing with us for the whole season."
Wilkins did not sign with Bradley in November and is a free agent.
Besides Indiana and Bradley, a couple other schools are seriously involved.
"He has visited Providence and he has visited Iowa State," said Carroll.
The coach was unaware of any other visit plans at this time
Because Wilkins has not played this season, there's an open question as to
whether he will have three or four seasons of Division One ahead of him.
"He is a very good student, knows two or three languages, had done a great
job in the classroom and I can't speak highly enough of him as a person," said
Carroll. "He is just a really nice kid."
hmmm...a "free agent"??
via further posts on the premium IU message board, the author of this Rivals article says Wilkins has NOT visited Indiana and has no current plans to do so, and that Indiana has not offered that anyone is aware of and even if they did, they do NOT have a scholarship available to give him unless further roster changes occur.
The vast majority of the posters in the discussion have said...
they're disinterested in using what remaining scholarships they might have to bring in another guy who can't play post or PG or who is "raw"...
I'm not sure what would keep him away from a chance to play in the Big East or Big 12. I guess when BU has talented, strong, big men in the frontcourt, they are utilized in the offense.
We went to TW quite a bit, and if he didn't take it to the rack, at least he could kick it back out for our guards to shoot with a little space.

When was Theron ever considered a talented big man?!
