1800 points and 285+ 3s made, this site would be blown up with love for OE in a BU uniform and the "Owners" would be leading the charge and would have led the charge for his 4 years.
I have always acknowledged OE is a very good player, and would have liked to see him at Bradley. So please don't paint me as a OE-hater.
My attitude toward him would be the same as it is toward Phil Gilbert- I loved him, and appreciated all he did for Bradley.

However, even if he played for Bradley, I wouldn't be posting and bragging around on message boards of other MVC teams what an all-time great player he was, how certain he was to be drafted in the 1st round of the NBA draft, or comparing him to far greater proven heroes like Anthony Parker or Hersey Hawkins. I would not be suggesting he should have his number retired. And I would acknowledge that in the end, despite all the hype, and all the Pre-season POY votes he got, that his career never lived up to the hype, and was a little unfullfilled.

        • Redbird guy, before your rant gets axed by one of the mods - here's my response...
you are wrong, there has been criticism on King O..but if you choose to believe there's not, then fine...
and if you want to compare the hate on one board vs. another, then the Redbird board and the horrific anti-BU stuff there clearly shows it is YOU that is the most out of touch of anyone posting in this discussion....

I like OE, and wish him the best. I hope he gets to play in the NCAA before his career is over. But he is not a special player. The numbers above show he is a comparable player to Phillip Gilbert, and Gilbert produced his numbers with a broken foot!
Bradley has had numerous players in their past who had better careers than Phil, and who rank above him on the all-time BU scoring list. ISU on the other hand has not had many real greats that were NBA high draft picks, or MVC HOF caliber. In fact they have had just 1- Doug Collins. Maybe that's why the accomplishments of Osiris Eldridge, though modest, are trumpeted so loudly.
the career numbers of Voise Winters, Al Smith, LC Bowen and several others are as good or better than we're talking about...

In fact, all those guys has fine years of 20ppg and Voise scored almost 1800 points taking MOST of his shots from 20-24 feet out and NOT getting the benefit of the 3-pt shot!!
heck, Voise certainly could have had many more pts in his career had they counted 3-pointers....
Osiris has had a good career....and his final scoring total (not his average) would place him inside the top 6 BU career scorers, but his career scoring average of 13.85 would place him about 15th among BU career scoring averages.

I don't think Chris Roberts is a plus defender. Only plus type defenders should be on the All-Defensive team. Bradley plays decent team defensive but I don't see any high level defensive guys as individuals.

You don't consider 1.5 steals a game and close to a block a game while guarding the opposing teams best defender (ALWAYS) a plus defender?!

You can always spin it that the coach got the most out of his kids and team to get where they are at. Without great coaching ISU would be in the play in game and zero chance of having anyone on 1st team. On OE he is talented and will make plenty as a pro. He is a marginal NBA player and will be better served going overseas. To me a marginal NBA player is plenty good!

Good point! The guy sacrificed his offensive game every night to take on the other teams best offensive player. That to me is a teammate you want
and very deserving as a defensive specialist. The made a ton of spectacular defensive stops this year and frustrated a lot of offensive talent. The one thing though that I'll miss about CR most though besides those backdoor slams is his positive attitude. He always has a smile.

I'm really going to miss Chris as well...along with his positive attitude, unlike some, he never quits or takes off plays...

Chris also led the Braves in forced turnovers and deflections, a couple stats that normally nobody knows, but I have heard his numbers on those stats were the best in the league..

Statistics like forced turnovers and deflections are kept by each coaching staff. They aren't official statistics. Those coaching staffs don't share those numbers with the other teams in the league. They guard internal stuff like that like they are state secrets. There is no way of knowing who leads the league in those categories.

Steals and blocked shots don't make you a good defender. Keeping guys from scoring does. I don't think Chris is a bad defender but he gambles too much and isn't very fundamentally sound. Is he probably Bradley's best defender? Yes. Does that make him plus in the grand scheme of things? No.

Phil Gilbert scored 1689 points in his BU career, compared to 1807 for Osiris. If not for the 10 games Phil missed his senior year, PG's career total would have been more than OE's, and I haven't even mentioned the other obvious fact that has magnified Eldridge's numbers- the fact that ISU has played the worst non-conference schedule imagineable for the last 3 years.
So again, I would make the point that they are very closely comparable, and Phil Gilbert had better percentages, and played against tougher competetion.
I have never heard anyone suggest Bradley should retire Phil Gilbert's number, or mention his name as one of the all-time great BU or MVC players.
Osiris has been hyped that way since his freshman year.
Also Gilbert played in the slowest paced offence of all time, had he played four years for Les he may have scored 2000 points. I think the comparison of OE and Gilbert is accurate very good MVC players but not quite next level like Korver and Parker.
                            Can we start winning soon?

Haven't BU players, who we thought had lots of talent, been left off various All Valley Pre and Post Season teams for quite some time?

Lets hope all the talented players at BU get recognized next year the old fashioned way, by virtue of winning something.
