The Numbers:
>Creighton won 73-68 in Peoria on 1/27
>>BU started the game shooting 2 for 19!!!
>>>Bradley held CU to just 1 basket in the last 9 minutes
>>>>BU was +8 at the FT line, and +10 on the boards
>>>>>The Jays were +21 points from the 3-point-line
>>>>CU's bench ranks 3rd nationally in minutes played
>>>The Jays are 13-2 in home finales under Dana Altman
>>CU is 6-2 in conference games decided by 5 points or less
>Creighton has only 1 player averaging double figures, BU has 3
The Rundown:
Bradley started 2 of 19, held the Jays to only 1 hoop the last 9 minutes, and dominated the boards....at home.....and still lost.
Why? The 36 points that Creighton got from the 3-point-line. Wragge, Jones, and Ashford all hit three 3-pointers against BU. For the season, those three only average 18 a game!
Bradley has lost the last 5 games in Omaha by almost 8 ppg. The last senior night appearance BU made at Creighton ended up 111-110 Jays, in 2 overtimes.
The Pick:
This is a tough one to pick. Bradley, by all rights, should have won in Peoria. BU had fewer turnovers, more steals, more FT's, more rebounds, and held CU to that 1 bucket in the last 9 minutes.
BU has not done well in Omaha. BU has not done well against Dana recently either.
Creighton is at home, on senior day, building off of a 2 game win streak. That said, BU is 5-2 in its last 7 and could be playing its best ball of the season. The defense was not very good against WSU, but the Braves took the W.
Bradley needs to make Creighton earn their points. BU has shown some zone in both of its last 2 games. That could be dangerous is the Jays starting bombing the three pointers again. I think BU must extend the bench in this game to counter the 11 players the Jays will use. Bradley must withstand the "Senior Day Momentum" that the Jays will surely start the game with.
If BU can do that, then I believe it will remain close throughout. Look for Will Egolf to be a factor today as well.
My heart really wants to take BU, but history dictates a Jays pick.
Bradley 66
Creighton 73
*I hope I am wrong.
