  • 25th Anniversary of Bobby Knight's chair-throwing incident

Yesterday, 2/23, was the 25th anniversary of one of the most famous coaching tantrums in basketball history. Hard to believe it's been 25 years! That means an entire generation of basketball fans may not have ever seen this.
Here is a brief story and a video clip-

Other little known anniversaries for Bobby Knight..

--on March 14 it will be precisely 10 years since the Neil Reed choking incident was made known (3/14/00)

--in Sept. it'll be the 10 year anniversary since the arm grabbing incident on IU's campus that led to Knight's firing..
..then when Knight refused to step down under his own voluntary zero-tolerance agreement, he was fired on 9/10/00.

--and just passed the 4-year anniversary of his incident where he slapped Texas Tech player Michael Prince.

--it is also nearly the 40-year anniversary of Bobby Knight's first known choking incident...

--we also just passed the 2-year anniversary (2/4/08 ) of when Bobby Knight quit in mid-season as head coach of Texas Tech - never really giving any real reason why...except that since, he has signed on to a lucrative job as a TV commentator and critic, something he said he'd never do...even saying this...

Wasnt it one of the Rock Island Reid boys at the line for Purdue when he threw the chair.

T - where is the note for the anniversary of Knights stalking of Valentine v Illinois in Bloomington? Didnt that one involve McClain and a foul not called?

That was insane how much of a child the General acted that evening.

You mean the time in 1991 Lou Henson beat IU in Champaign and with a couple minutes left in the game,
Knight walked all the way to the end of the floor, past Henson and the Illini bench, and exited to the lockerroom while time was still on the clock?
          Classless...

No this was during the Sergio run with Illinois when Valentine stood at the free throw line arms folded as Knight stalked the court walking within a few inches of Valentine. I thought it was related to a foul that Sergio did not get called for on a break away.

So many memories of Sir Bobby hard to get them all straight

no, that's not what happened, it was a show of arrogance....
personally I could care less about Bobby Knight, but just about everywhere you look on TV or message boards he's being idolized and worshipped...
but thankfully there are places like BradleyFans where you can come and actually hear the truth about the guy...

Yes Houston you are correct. Steve Reid from Rock Island was at the free throw line when Bobby threw the chair. Steve is the son of a good friend of mine and the former coach of the Rock Island Rocks,Duncan Reid. Steve officiated for a short time after college and in fact worked several Pre-lim games in front of me. We talked about the incident several times. I would have loved to see Duncan punch Bobby right where he eats but the ejection from the game would have to suffice. If T is not a Bobby Knight fan that makes two of us.

                        Bob Knight's "Integrity"

                        Bob Knight's "Integrity"............

Actions speak louder than words, and somewhere between choking his own player, playing down choking his own player, hurling his chair across a court, and recently calling out Kentucky coach John ...

Is this piling on? This is just too easy.
