Butler Blows out East Coast Mid Major power Sienna, 70-53

    So would I!

Siena better win the MAAC tourney now if they want in the Big Dance.

Butler should win this game (as they did), since they are a better team than Siena, and they were playing at home.

      Siena 53
      Butler 70

Don't we get the chance to beat them next year?

Not good for mid-major basketball in general though. I wanted Siena to win this game to get them into at-large contention, which would help get even more non-BCS teams into the Big Dance. But I'm not sure Siena gets in if they fail to win MAAC tournament. They will be a great "test case" though like Davidson was a couple of years ago. A team that nearly runs the table in their conference, but loses every game they had against tournament contenders this year. Do you take a team like Siena ahead of a team like, say Marquette or UConn? Conventional wisdom says no as Siena is something like 0-6 against Top 50 RPI teams.

My guess is that Siena should win their conference tournament anyway as they are so far ahead of the rest of their league, but funny things happen every year in these tournaments, so this is no sure thing.

This was a close game until the final 10 minutes. Like most good teams playing AT HOME Butler got on a run and finished strong. I don't think this loss hurts Sienna that much. They are now 22-6 and I think they will get an at-large bid even if they lose in their conference tourney...... just like UNI.

I don't think we will play them next year, either. They are not ready to resume with Bradley.

This is the at least the third year in a row that Butler hosted their Bracketbuster game. What's up with that? I thought they are supposed to alternate each team every year.

It looks like they played at Davidson last year (2/21/09) and were home with Drake 2 years ago (2/20/08 ), so they have alternated.

Oh okay. I forgot about that. But didn't they play a home game against SIU in 2007, or was that in 2006? If so then they were home for two years in a row.

I recall reading somewhere once about BracketBuster being in 2 year deals. Some would be home then road... then start another 2 year deal as home and road... but others might be road then home.... followed by home then road. Does that make any sense. And also, the exception pointed out was Creighton as they have been at home for most of their BracketBuster games.

But so anyway.... Butler in the BracketBuster:
                      04 vs Ohio
                      05 not in
                      06 @ Kent
                      07 vs SIU
                      08 vs Drake
                      09 @ Davidson
                      10 vs Siena

Yeah, I knew they played at home for at least two years in a row.
