I am pretty sure he also once accused a black official of being racist against him because he was a black coach.

The guy always seemed a bit off to me.
Forgot to add that he said IU's no-name uniforms and striped warm-ups hurt his recruiting.

who would want to be a candy striper uniform for basketball? The no names on the back for some kids may make or break a recruit. Kids are not so beholden to tradition and if a program does not advance in terms of facility or its image they become just like any other program nothing special. Imagine BU use to be one of the premier teams in the country in the 50s, what happened?

Who would want a self-centered kid who is all about his name on a jersey?

You can spin that both ways.

Yes you can but in today's world if you want to recruit today's players you have to figure out what works. There is a ton of media and every kid in America thinks that they should star in their own Real World program so you have to play into this cultural reality that IMO is a virtual reality. I'm more with you on this BradleyJD but I'm afraid the teens of today are not. Let's call it the Paris Hilton syndrome!

Of course you are correct. But I hope I am not the only one that refuses to allow this attitude to grow and be seen as acceptable.

There are so many things in our culture today that need to be re-adjusted. I thought personally like to see the names on the back of the jersey so I know who I'm looking at on TV not for any other reason.

OMG! I have never seen so many "excuses" put forth in defense of a bad team! We have always been told here that injuries, player defections, players being "young", learning a new "system", and "rebuilding" excuses just can't be used to explain a team doing poorly!

Coaches should be held up to their promises, and Crean promised to turn Indiana back into a winner, in the tradition that Hoosiers are accustomed to.

Next year will be Crean's 3rd season, and it doesn't look like it will be a whole lot better than this one. Recall that after a disappointing 2003-2004 season at Bradley (his 2nd year), there were many people calling for Jim Les' head. But this column asks fans for patience! How dare they expect fans to have patience! Crean is not delivering on his promises!

Disclaimer- the above is 100% sarcasm. I fully support Tom Crean, I believe he is a great coach and motivator, and believe he will turn things around at IU.
My purpose is to skewer those who had a 180?° different opinion about this subject when it involved Jim Les.

In year two, he is heading in that direction. The guy is a good recruiter and a great coach.
He won 9 games this year with about as soft a non-conference schedule as you can get. Indiana has lost 10 straight games. I hardly think this qualifies for heading in the direction of competing for conference titles.

While they were obviously going to be a lower-level team this year, I think they have enough talent to have won a few more Big Ten games, or at least be somewhat competitive in games, which they haven't been. Also, they are rebuilding at a time when several Big Ten teams are loading up on talent. It's going to be a rough road ahead for iu.

10 conference losses in a row is an all time record for IU, and they are about to tie, then break their all time consecutive loss record (conf or non-conf) in their next couple games, even after bringing in 6 separate players last year who were Top 100!!!
They had the 3rd best recruiting class last fall and were Top 10 the year before!

comes a time that you stop hanging it all on your predecessor.......

Da Coach--I don't ever remember fans wanting Jim Les fired after only two or three seasons. That seems pretty premature. At least, I never heard that from anyone. If you did, wow.

Its my opinion (outside of really unique circumstances), that you shouldn't even start to look at that stuff until year four. Year five more like it. That's ample time to get things in place, etc.

Year two? Seems pretty quick to pull the trigger.

Yes, a couple of those who were saying that after 2 years are still around. This board got it's start in Jan. 2005, and there were discussions about who Bradley should replace JL with right from the start of BradleyFans.

Sheesh. Wow. Well, to each their own I guess.

I have no problem admitting that at the end of Year 3, after a 2nd consecutive play-in round embarrassment, I was ready to pull the plug. I held that belief through January of 2006, which was the middle of Year 4. At the time, there was little evidence to suggest I was wrong. We know what happened then, and things appeared to be finally heading in the right direction for the next 18-24 months. Unfortunately it's my contention that things have leveled off, and it can be argued that they're trending downward. I would like nothing more than for things to change for the better like they did in 2006.

More salt in the wounds of all the Hoosier fans in Indiana and more reason for the IU fans to get on Tom Crean...

In the Indiana-Kentucky All Star game yesterday the Purdue recruits and the recruits that are headed out of state totally dominated, while all the IU recruits....well...actually they did nothing, since IU and Tom Crean have totally struck out and missed on every one of the instate kids....
