  • State emberasses itself

    I didn't see a thread about this yet: http://content.usatoday.com/communit...l-television/1

I didn't get to see the BU game on Tuesday, and instead watched Mississippi State v Kentucky. After the game, the crowd threw bottles and cups. The fans also got "DeMarcus Cousins' phone number and bombarding him with calls and texts, some of which were objectionable." (I'm sure only SOME of them were objectionable...) I certainly don't like Kentucky or their coach, but I'm really glad they won that game (I know they probably shouldn't have won).

We've discussed issues at ISU games ("chant" from a couple years ago of "you $*ck ****"). IMO, either the NCAA or individual conferences need to crack down hard on irresponsible fan behavior if the schools are incapable of handling the problem. A lot of recent behavior issues have come from the student sections. I really don't want NCAA basketball to turn into European soccer. It doesn't seem like schools are doing enough to prevent/enforce these problems.

I love European soccer, and the Chicago Fire, but thats besides the point. I wish the Bradley student section had passion, energy and size that Mississippi State's did. Cousins did not seem to mind too much during the game, he made the "call me" hand signal. Then Kentucky won. I would say he got the upper hand at the end of the day. I believe that the same thing happened to Tim Tebow.

I didn't see any cups being thrown but after the game, I saw a couple KY players that were ready to duke it out with the fans after the handshakes. The coaches quickly shooed them off the court before anything happened though.

The action starts around the 5:25 mark (just skip ahead to that point) and really picks up around the 6:15 mark......

I forgot about it, but I believe the fans were mighty peeved over that missed goaltending call as well. Would have totally changed the game plan the last 30 seconds of OT. Not sure how the refs missed that one.

I think we are still quite a few steps removed from the incredible fanaticism associated with league soccer around the world - but none the less, the point is well taken (for the record, I love me some futbol).

While i don't agree with it and don't believe it has any place in college athletics, there may very well have been a possible realistic advantage to targeting Cousins. For all that kids incredible talent, and strength/balance etc. hes on a hair trigger, and generally capable of starting a fist fight at the drop of a hat.

The throwing of garbage during games is always a bad idea, and no real excuse for that.
