Regardless of the player, I would follow university athletic policy, which UNI has done here.

I guess if that's the policy, then it's the appropriate punishment. I just don't feel like it's an appropriate policy.

Yeah agreed. Although I checked and saw that Brady Morningstar missed 9 games! I don't know if all of those were from his DUI or what....does that mean Kansas is strict...or maybe because he isn't a vital member of the team anymore haha.

I myself would give our star player a few extra chances before I ruined the teams chances at succeeding...

Why should it matter at all who the player is? If you get a DUI, then you should pay the price no matter what your stats are. The two have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Oh I wasn't refering to a DUI. It was my assumption that a DUI would be grounds for suspension for the rest of the year. If I get a DUI I can not get certified to teach in this state!

I mean I would work with a trouble maker and try to fix him (things like TB's problems) before I was done with him. I feel like the program would still be clean and we would win. I guess that is like what les is doing....wonder what he will do if something else happens?

oh and as far as about the player...(that is just my opinion , i am not a head coach...but I may like winning to much)

That's what I'm talking about. I feel like a DUI should be grounds for suspension of at least 50% of that season's games and continued into the next season if need be.

I agree that any troubled kid should be "worked with". I believe in 2nd and sometimes 3rd chances, but not without consequences pertaining to the violation(s).

I have no idea either, but would certainly hope it's the same punishment for any student athlete that violates the same rule/law.

BU doesn't have those rules. If they do, they're being broken on a weekly basis.

Well I know they had that rule 5 or 6 years ago. I remember when we had house parties and the basketball players came during the season,they never drank because it was against team rules.

There have been a couple schools in the Valley where players had DUIs & other underage alcohol violations and received absolutely NO visible penalties despite talk of discipline...
At both schools the violations were kept 100% secret until the message boards and (in one of the two cases) the newspaper outted them....even then the coaches were deceptive with the facts....
Then, all we heard were the same old haggard lines --
"we're going to wait until the system plays itself out",
"we're going to wait until we have all the facts",
"we're going to impose an immediate and complete suspension", etc...
followed by....the kid the very next day being filmed in practice and then starting and playing the next game despite the claim of discipline...or simply showing up as a starter in the next game...

Those two schools have since had ton and tons of repeated discipline issues, with one of the players I am referring to getting arrested again and again, then finally getting dismissed!!
So it's pretty clear the weak or non-existent discipline is as bad as shooting themselves in the foot...

So, as I have said before...my issue is NOT with the kids who violate the rules, it is with the schools & coaches who only talk discipline but never actually follow through or keep their word on discipline....
but then they end up paying the price themselves, as the violators learn they can get away with this stuff and never change, or half their team has court dates at any point in time, and arrest warrants are out for some of their guys!

From what I understand UNI was simply following their written rules for student-athlete infractions. The word is that you get a suspension equal to 10% of your games for a first infraction.

Doesn't BU now have something similar?
