My favorite KW story was this one from two years ago:

    Sunday, March 2, 2008
The first time the question was put to me last week, I was mildly startled. Then I heard it again. And again.
Do you think Bradley is running a renegade basketball program?
    Wow.

He made such a pathetic attempt to fabricate a story that it was laughable because of its transparency.

KW does not need to be a cheerleader, but unbiased he is not. If he was a more skilled writer, he could actually be dangerous.

I agree BM...there is nothing for the PJStar to gain and a ton to lose.

I think people want to believe there is a bias. After a while they imagine that it exists.

I have a basement full of article praising BU from just a few years back. I think the PJStar reports what it sees. When its good, they tell you. When it's bad they tell you that too.

You can put all the sugar you want on a pile of ****, it's till gonna be ****.

Before I get attacked, I am not saying that BU is ****. I was just making a statement.

All you have to do is to take a look at the content of the paper. The content is decreasing at an ever increasing rate! Of the few times that I visit their website, I have found that rather uninteresting as well... One of the reasons for this is that people are tired of the same old same old agenda filled PJS! and yes... I do have a beef with the PJS on an non-sports related agenda that they were... lets just say that the PJS was misrepresenting the truth to their readers and I dared to correct them a few years ago.
        Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

That's fine if you don't like them. I never had a subscription until this year. That's just for the wife.

I do most of my reading online.

I think the paper will stay around, if only because we have no other alternatives.

The first time the question of the Peoria Journal Star being a renegade newpaper was put to me last week, I was mildly startled.
Then I heard it again. And again. And again. And again. And again. Then I realized it was the empty space echoing inside my head. (insert Pulitzer-level dramatic pause here)
Do you think the Journal Star is running a renegade sports department?
Wow. Oh, a wise guy. Nyuk, Nyuk. I'm trying to think, but nothing happens.

[quote=tornado;166076]yup - this Theobald swipe was never explained and never justified even when time has proven it wrong...
lots of coaches associate with the AAU scum and go kiss up to the powerbrokers in Chicago -- but our coach never has...[quote]

IMO, Theobald was a strictly anti Bradley, whereas at times KW has some pro BU articles.

I first met Phil Theobald over 40 years ago ( I was very young at the time) - before he worked for the PJS. In my opinion he was a talented writer and a funny guy. I agree he had no love for Bradley and wrote alot of negative stuff but I think his only agenda was to amuse himself. He loved the reaction he got. On the other hand I think Dick Lein was the best writer I have ever read when it comes to Bradley basketball. That's because he understood the history and tradition and the unique place it has in Peoria better than anyone since. Find his columns and read them. He may not have agreed with every coaching move and he wasn't afraid to say so but his love of Bradley is obvious. If you read his stuff and compare it to what we have now I think you might gain a real appreciation for him.
