  • An apology to a BU fan

Hey guys. This isn't GR4. I go by 45otseoj. I post on pjstar, redbirdfan, and valleytalk. My friend was kind enough to let me use his sn. With that being said...

Tonight after the game I got into a verbal tussle with a BU fan. I'm not ashamed for getting into the argument, but I am ashamed for a word I used during the argument. It was inappropriate and immature and for that I apologize.

I've lived in Peoria my entire life. I'm by no means a BU fan, but I go to almost every home game and have alot of respect for the team and their fans.

So once again, I'm sorry to whomever I offended. I got too excited and my words got ahead of my brain.

Good game, and maybe we will meet again in StL.

If it was out in front by the bus pick up area after the game...no need to apologize...there were several young BU fans shouting f**k ISU at some ISU fans for no reason, other than they were from ISU...I said "cool it, and show some class" to one of them, and was told to go f**K myself...I could then smell the alcohol on their breath...so if that was the group you mouthed off to--they deserved it IMO...

A couple times during every game the cheerleaders go up to the landing area (up the first flight of stairs) of the upper bowl to cheer. Near section 3, several ISU fans (students?) stood in front of the BU cheerleaders waving their arms so that they couldn't cheer. One ISU fan actually bumped the female cheerleader at least 3 times. Prior to this happening the Civic Center security was called up to the ISU section.

You would never see this type of behavior from BU fans in Normal. Really sad to see, although I'm not sure why I would expect anything else.

One poll on VT said ISU has the classiest fans LMFAO!

there were so few ISU fans last night that honestly I really had no interaction with any, and never noted any untoward behavior..
I know some BU fans can be embarrassing, but I certainly don't hold isolated fan behavior against the entire fan base..
but we can talk objective measures such how many times even the press and the ISU administration has taken their own fans base to task....but only after we review what can be proven factually, then we can debate...

As far as last night is concerned, the dialouge went something like this:

My friends and I were walking out singing the MVC Shuffle and I was holding up my "Fear the Bird" towel. A gentleman and his wife came up to the right of me and said something along the lines of, "Can't you win with some class." Some friendly arguing insued, nothing profane. Then the gentleman said, "Neither team is going anywhere so I don't really care." I responded, "and that's why you're the worst fans in the *bleeping* conference." His wife asked in horror, "Are you in a frat!?" "No," I responded. "But I was raised in Peoria."

I don't believe what I said. Many of my close family and friends are BU fans so I know that isn't true. It just came out, and for that, I apologize again.

Maybe it was the ISU crowd, maybe it was the walkup BU people, maybe it was the atmosphere, but I saw more drunk people last night than probably all of the other games combined. This one skankosaurus from ISU was so profane it wasn't even funny.

No matter where your at, both teams are going to have fans that get out of control. I dont think trying to figure out which team is worse matters. I have had many awful situations at Carver including grown men yelling at children. As well I imagine Bradley fans have had bad situations at Redbird Arena. Lets be honest we can all be *****s at times.

Is that it? An indirect insult to a couple blue hairs who insinuate that the use of a vulgar word is associated with the greek system? I'd say you did them a favor! Those people sound like the ones who sit the entire game and should be watching from home anyway. Maybe they'll stay there next time or realize it's a rivalry game and rejoicing in a win is part of the program and is to be expected. Don't apologize for that.

I've never understood why fans can't enjoy their team winning. It always seems people get more out of bashing the other team than celebrating their team. Towards the end of the game the isu fans behind the bench directed everything toward the student section instead of their team, and our student section at one point seemed more entertained by the isu students getting talked to than they did the game. I'll just never understand it.

I've been to away games at probably about a dozen different venues, and I have never had a fight or even a near-fight with an opposing fan. Most fans don't care if you cheer for your own team, but they seem to get irritated when you come into their venue, being rude and degrading towards their team, city, and fan base.

If any ISU fans were just cheering on their birds, BU fans need to show civility and class towards them. But when they start running their mouths and being disrespectful guests, I don't know why anybody would be surprised at a cold reception. Same goes for traveling BU fans.

All that is talking about is a "Buck *******" shirt. So many teams do that for their rival game. It is a part of having a rivalry. That letter to the editor is not needed at all. I would expect the same from any other rival team as well.
