I dont blame the coaching

Let's look at the facts:

A. This is a young team.
B. This team capable of being a really good team.

In our past 3-4 games we should have won - Nobody (other than SM) wants the ball! You can tell the kids everyday we need leaders who want the ball - BUT that can't be coached. I truely believe next year, we will have 3 or 4 guys that not only want the ball, they will make it in crunch time. Young teams need years like this to learn and get better. JL is not the problem.

PS - I'm not a BSS member. I have not spent tons of money. My problem is the people that spend "0" money but complain like they are somebody in the program.

The team is not all that young, juniors, seniors starting in 3 positions, a redshirt sophmore. I would say pretty average as age goes.
Capable of being a really good team? I don't know-I don't think so until they have a big man in the center.
Nobody else wants the ball-I do not agree-in fact a lot of posters have accurately noted a bit of competition between Warren and Brown in terms of wanting to score-3 players in the tops in MVC in scoring...nobody wants the ball????????
JL is not the problem-he is at the very least a part of the problem..
A good team next year..only if they have a wide body at center.

The amount of returning scoring is usually a factor that determines how well a team does.
Here are the numbers for the amount of returning scoring for each team in the MVC-

Bradley- last season- 67.1 ppg- returning 50.1 ppg- 74.7% (lost leading scorer)
Creighton- last season- 73.3 ppg- returning 50.7 ppg- 69.2% (lost leading scorer/POY)
Drake- last season 64.5 ppg- returning 30.9 ppg- 46.7% (lost 2nd & 3rd leading scorers)
Evansville- last season 67.1 ppg- returning 19.4 ppg- 28.9% (lost top 4 scorers)
IL State- last season 71.0 ppg- returning 36.4 ppg- 51.3% (lost leading scorer)
IN State- last season 63.1 ppg- returning 55.0 ppg- 87.2% (lost 2nd leading scorer)
MO State- last season 60.9 ppg- returning 35.8 ppg- 58.8% (lost leading scorer and 3 of top 4)
UNI- last season 67.4 ppg- returning 63.4 ppg- 92.4% (lost only 7th leading scorer)
So IL- last season 63.4 ppg- returning 36.5 ppg- 57.6% (lost 3rd & 4th leading scorers)
Wichita St- last season 62.9 ppg- returning 43.3 ppg- 68.8% (lost 4th & 5th leading scorers)

Additional notes-
Bradley also returns Andrew Warren who missed last season, but averaged 13.2 ppg in 2007-2008.
SIU adds Tony Freeman who lead Iowa in scoring in 2007-2008 with 13.8 ppg.
InSU might add Jake Kelly who lead Iowa in scoring in 2008-2009 with 11.6 ppg. No decision has been released by the NCAA on a waiver that could allow Kelly to play for Indiana State this season.
SIU's 3rd leading returning scorer, Ryan Hare, is suspended and charged with a felony. His return to the team is undetermined.

In order of highest to lowest returning scoring-

Bradley.....74.7%
Creighton..69.2%
Wichita St.68.8%
MO State..58.8%
So IL........57.6%
IL State....51.3%

This is a young team? Sorry...that is not a "fact".

Maniscalco...Junior...3rd year in the program.
Roberts...Senior...2nd year in the program.
Warren...Junior...4th year in the program.
Brown...sophomore...2nd year in the program.
Egolf...sophomore...3rd year in the program.
DSE...freshman...1st year in the program.
Singh...senior...6th year in the program.

That's our 7 man rotation...5 of the 7 are either seniors or have been in the program for 3 or more years now...we are not 'young'...not by any stretch.

I think by "young", the meaning was that the most important parts of the team will be back next year. And that is true. Only 2 seniors, Sam Singh and Chris Roberts, will be gone. Dodie Dunson, who had the capability to be the leader of this team, and possibly a leading scorer, will return healthy.

If we look at the % of retunring scoring for next season, Bradley will be at the top of the list.

I think worst case scenario, the wheels come off after the latest home embarassment and Jim ends up gone after the season.

Best case is that they wipe out the staff, like some have compared to Lovie Smith/Ron Zook. This could be really good or really ugly.

If Jim is willing to hire coaches that he will allow to change things, I think it could be a very successful move.

If Jim takes the Lovie approach and says "well we are changing coaches but they are going to think like I think and they are going to do what I say", I think it is setting up for disaster. Not only are you not changing anything, but who wants to come into a situation for a 1 year shot at the same ol' same ol' especially if the writing is on the wall.

My question to those that think JL is not a good coach, seemingly based on his 8-year record and lack of quality recruits, is why do I get the sense that almost everyone is willing to give him another year? If he's indeed that bad of a coach and we aren't getting the recruits that we should be getting, then why isn't he gone as soon as the season ends?

Something else to think anout. The coaches do not read this stuff, but players and most importantly potential recruits read boards from everywhere. Negativity would then hurt recruiting. The recruit says, ???Why would I want to go there.??? Your negative posts then carries weight to hurt the program as a whole.

If a recruit bases his choice of school on the message boards, then I don't want that player.

We returned a lot of scoring this season too, but it doesn't help when your best returning 3-point shooter ends up playing a total of 45 minutes for the season.

I have been on message boards for over a decade and it's a haggard old losing ad-hominem argument to try to paint others who disagree as simply being the same identity..especially if trying to support your own argument fails..

Because he's a Hall of Fame player, an alum, and I think most fans generally like him as a person.

I'm talking about the people that believe he should be gone. Why does it seem that most of those people are giving him another year? It's a serious question that I was curious to know the answer to.
