  • I dont blame the coaching

I haven??™t posted allot on here this year and I??™m not going to start by bashing the coaching after this loss. I thought we had a good game plan and played with heart...

However the fact of the matter is to be successful at basketball at any level you need an inside game. You cant win consistently over a season and over the years without and inside presence, without someone to POUND it into, without easy baskets. The fact is 17 offensive rebounds takes a physical and mental toll on a team. You play hard nosed D for 25 seconds get a stop and then have to work that hard again or worse they get any easy put back. This team reminds of 06 07 not in the style of play but in the fact we had one pretty decent big (Zach) and one not so good one (Sally) same thing with Will and Singh. I think the biggest fault of Jim Les is that Sam Singh gets meaningful minutes in year 6 when he wasn??™t good in years 1-5. The worst thing that happened to this program is that X crawford never came/wasn??™t going to be good anyway and AT hasn??™t been able to beat out Singh.

Side note, while Sam M played amazing tonight we really need Warren to show up at the end of games, its alot easier for a 6'5 guy who can dunk with ease to make plays going to the basket then it is a 5'10 guy who plays with a ton of heart.

I think Les will be back next year but if we don??™t get anything out of AT or Prosser or some miracle JUCO big we will be back at this point again.
    Can we start winning soon?

Nope......you ALWAYS have to blame the coach, just ask around.

TJ is clearly a better coach, just like Cuonzo was the better coach when they dismantled us at their place. I'm guessing JL was the better coach the next time the two teams played.

Unfortunately I think Lakeview is being too kind. I will agree that it wasn't prepping or gameplanning that lost this, but when your entire philosophy is seemingly devoid of the fundamental concept in basketball, which is get big men you can throw ball inside to, and throw it into them, well there's not much I can defend when it comes to the staff. Sure, they guys played hard. They played their b@lls off. Effort isn't something that's generally been an issue. But enough is enough. The personnel we have now isn't as a result of a guy going to the NBA early. We just flat out failed recruiting-wise. Failed. And when you fail, someone has to pay the price. This is a failure. Spin all you want, make all the excuses you want, it's an epic failure. 5 home losses with 3 home games to play. Failure.

You can also make the argument that recruiting is as integral as drawing up the x's and o's, and both are the responsibility of the coach. Just saying...
People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

You don't? Then how do you explain the BRILLIANT play we came up with out of the last 2 time outs....throw the ball to sammy and have him dive to the right and throw the ball behind his head....yeah real good job on that one.

And that's how you blame the coach for everything. I'm still not sure what new recruits we have on the team since the Illinois game.

coaches usually gets too much blame and too much credit. that just the way college basketball is. the head coach is like the coo of his company. it is his program.

His in game coaching was fine but he recruited this team. Fact is we have had 1 player in his tenure that he recruited who could draw a double in the post consistantly and no surprise we did some winning that year. People want to say he is a great recruiter "better than Mo" maybe he is but I would sure love to have Bayo, Fuches, Granger or Rabey on this team. I would even love to have Abba and his army back on this team.

Not sure if that's sarcasm or frustration.

Last I looked, a coach is responsible for recruiting talent which can win.

You can call it unfair, but, at the end of the day, if BU loses because of poor coaching, or inability of the coaching staff to recruit talent, it is still a loss and a program going no where. JL is responsible for the outcome of his program, period.

Unfortunately, IMHO, it may be tougher for a coach to improve his recruiting, than it is to improve his coaching. Anyone beg to differ?

see the second part of my post about Sam but the fact is he was really hot, he needed to have the ball late in the game. 17 offensive rebounds is what killed us.

Because he is one of the few players you can normally depend on to make a shot. Maybe not how it turned out, but he's one of the few players Les can depend on. And THAT didn't even work tonight!

It's frustrating with this team. I live near another school that while they may not beat the good teams most of the time (though they had a great win over a top ten team at home earlier this season), they do know how to beat the teams they should, at least at home. And they have several more "cupcakes" at home this month, which may lead them to that elusive (for them) NCAA bid.

Some of you might have already guessed that I'm talking about Northwestern. That may be a place I need to take in a game before the year is out!

I'm hoping Bradley can be in that same situation next year. We need our home court advantage back!

I understand that, but I certainly don't believe he gets NEARLY as much credit around here after a win.
