  • Cellus' first games in Europe-- his team goes 3-0

Marcellus Sommerville made a good first impression for his new pro team Atomeromu SE Paks of the Hungarian A Division.

Playing in his first game, Cellus was the game's leading scorer and the leading rebounder for his team with 24 points and 6 rebounds.
Atomeromu played Thursday in a preseason tournament called the Univer Cup in Kunszentmarton, Hungary, and beat Albacomp 94-72. Below is the box score. It looks like the crowd was estimated at 400, a few less than Cellus is accustomed to playing in front of.

With those kinds of crowds, where does the money come from to pay the players?

Here is an article that addresses that.

"International basketball might not provide the same glamour or money that the NBA does, but players can still find solid pay.

???‚¬?“Some countries pay similar to NBA teams,???‚¬?? MU assistant coach Melvin Watkins said. ???‚¬?“Some of that has dried up, but there are still places that pay six figures. Also, teams will pay for expenses like houses and cars.???‚¬??

Although it is possible to make NBA-like money, for most of these players, it is hard to ever actually make it to the NBA."

Cellus' pro team Atomeromu SE won their second game in 2 days to go to 2-0 in the Univer Cup Tournament. After starting and scoring 24 points in game 1, Cellus came off the bench and scored 9 points in the second game.

I can't tell if this gives Cellus' team the championship of the tournament. The tournament was listed to be Sept. 21-23, so they may still play one more game against the other team in the 4 team tournament, but his team is the only 2-0 team.

This tournament, the Univer Cup, did play a 3rd game on Saturday, and it has just been posted on the Eurobasketball website--

Cellus' team, Atomeromu SE Pakes won for the 3rd straight day and is the tournament champion with a 3-0 record. Cellus started, but scored just 2 points in the 3rd game. His new teammate, Mark Walters a 6'2" guard from New Mexico, who joined the team just less than a week ago like Cellus, was the leading scorer with 43 points and was named the MVP of the tournament.--
