In my make-believe utopia that I escape to from time to time, I imagine that we have gone back to that logo and those uniforms, and that we still have either Brad E. Lee or Tommy Hawk as our mascot.

Explain to me again how Tommy Hawk is offensive? Why can't we just resurrect him? It's a bird in a Bradley jersey named Tommy. If the NCAA draws some other conclusion that's their problem.

Tommy Hawk was awesome! I didn't care much for Brad E. Lee, but going to games as a kid I loved watching Tommy Hawk's antics. I remember he would often try to make half court shots during half-time and he would always mess with the referees during timeouts.

I know many don't like the idea of a mascot, but I think they can help keep the crowd into the game, especially if they are entertaining to watch.

Of course, Tommy Hawk has nothing to do with Indians but rather pays honor to the great #33. The fact his name is Tommy is irrelevant.

I dont think logos such as North Carolina's, USC's, Kentucky's, and Oklahoma's, are anything particularly special, but they are known because the teams win. We could have the greatest logo in the history of athletics but if it won't be nationally recognized until our program wins consistently at the national level

Exactly...so why not bring him back? These things don't have to make perfect sense. A 'Hoya' isn't a Bulldog, but you never hear Georgetown's mascot questioned...BRING BACK TOMMY HAWK!

But a very good logo can be conducive to extra licensing revenue. I realize that we are under some restrictions with our current logo that make things difficult, but the current logo is starting to look very dated and quite frankly boring!

We could do more with merchandising though. BU just really has nothing to offer in that regard. That's no a basketball or athletics thing, but more of a university/marketing thing.

"synonymous with winning." Well that leaves out CUBS then

The Cub's logo is kinda boring too, now that you mention it.

I think you're all forgetting about Captain Brave, defender of Mo Valley victories. He's only semi-hostile and abusive, but wouldn't offend any native americans. I'm sure if someone talked to him, he'd be willing to give up his costume for official mascot recognition!

Actually, I like The Bradley Hawks. Hawks are indigenous to the area and have a tough fighting aura! We could resurrect the ol"hawk outfit and get it on!
Then we could join The Jays and the Redbirds in the aviary.
Just think of the headlines. "Hawks soar over Jays". "Hawks win in Redbirds nest"! "Hawks nip the Bull dogs". "Hawks feed on WHEATshockers"
"Hawks bring down Sychamores." "Hawks elude Panthers."
"Hawks bird-dog Salukis" "Hawks trump Aces" "Hawks out claw Bears."

My senior year, the student government did this too. it was even debated before the University senate, which is not the students, but the higher ups of the school so to speak. There was a decent amount of polling including several possible outcomes for a new mascot. Everything from a fireman or serviceman, to a gargoyle (the type glaring down from Bradley hall). When i left office in the government there was still the talk of the polling being passed onto the university senate again, who 'supposedly' actually commissioned some design/marketing agencies to develop logos, or templates. That was the last I heard of it, which would have been like 3 years ago. I always assumed that they just moved beyond it figuring it would be too costly to pursue. For the record they never had any intention of changing the name from the Braves, but rather just finding some why to create a physical manifestation of that.

Just came across this on the Bradley student blog... Take it for what it's worth.
