I like the chief justice mascot idea. Sounds fun.

One question in general, since you mentioned it, why against a name change in particular. I understand the tradition angle and I like the braves name... But, we can't use the name for much of anything anymore, so if a great idea came along, I'd personally at least explore the idea.

IDK fish, I just have always known Bradley as the Braves, personally I'd just hate to see it go. That's just me though. It just wouldn't seem the same anymore.

Because we always have and always should be known as the Bradley Braves...

        That is why

JMHO, I have yet to see Bradley merchandise that looks great with our current logo. I am picky though!

If it does change I hope they find something unique and clever. There's enough Wildcats and Bulldogs and Tigers in the world.

I can see both sides to this argument, as I think most people can. There is over a hundred years of tradition with Bradley athletics, most of it under the name of the Bradley Braves. There is a certain amount of pride associated with this tradition.

However, because of political correctness and the overbearing gestapo-like actions of the NCAA, we don't have a mascot, and the logo is generic and lacks identity and distinction*. It would definitely improve marketing and identity recognition to have a more unique and distinctive mascot and/or logo. Other than offending the traditionalists, there isn't any other downside to that.

In every other instance where colleges changed mascots and logos, their marketing sales went up immensely, and their name recognition and identity improved as well. So I would be open to seeing what Pres. Glasser and Dr. Cross have in mind.

However, I doubt that this BU Student Senate resolution will have any effect at all.

              * I can't tell you how many times I have been traveling around the country with a piece of Bradley logo apparel on and been asked if the BU stood for Butler University, or Baylor University, or some other BU. Rarely are people outside of central Illinois familiar wit Bradley University.

Although I doubt this goes anywhere cuase not much from senate ever does, I think it would be great to get some sort of new mascot/logo. For everyone complaining about lack of student interest in the other thread, this could be something that helps get some more student excitement going.

The BU Braves logo with the white script looks aweful. It looks like something a high school kid did in his spare time. We don't need a cartoonish logo, but something better than what we have. Staying with the B or BU would be fine, Villanova, Duke, Xavier all have nice looking logos with just the first letter of the name, but ours is terrible in comparison.

They should also consider adding new words to the fight song, so we can actually sing instead of clap. I felt stupid telling non-BU friends I brought to games that we don't sing, just stand and clap one steady beat.

I am not saying get rid of the name "Braves" or anything like that, we should keep with tradition where possible and as much as possible. But the Fieldhouse had plenty of tradition and now that's gone to make way for bigger and better, so why not the logo, mascot, or fight song as well?

Gee...why do you think they thought BU stood for Butler?

Even if it had the word "Bradley" in it there are MANY schools, communities, businesses, that use the word "Bradley."

A new mascot and logo sends merchandizing through the roof mostly because it make the old "stuff" obsilete (sp.) (see SMS - Missouri State) unless your in Major college sports or pro sports (off color jerseys, etc).

Bottom line is... WIN BABY! Then the guy in the airport in Atlanta says..."hey I saw your team in the NCAA last year, what a great game they played."
Get Well Massive Mike! "Once a Brave always a Brave!"

???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

Everything considered, the most important reason not to change the school nickname....

I would have to change my board name

I think we'll have to change the mascot to the Snakes so your board name becomes a tongue-twister

Our BU Braves logo is a good one and needs no changing, as far as a mascot goes I would guess somebody has to come up with one that has to do with the word Brave, maybe they should work harder at getting more students to attend athletic events instead of worrying about this mascot issue, we all know how well it worked out the last time and look at how lame most of the mascots look in our conference.

I like the "Bradley Bluehairs." Think of the possibilities. Mascot caricatures (think of Tim Conway and Betty White) working the crowd to a frenzy with chants of "STAND UP (IF YOU CAN), STAND UP (IF YOU CAN), STAN ... OH NEVER MIND!
