Valley's leading scorer Harry Marshall out with injury

Indiana State's Harry Marshall, who currently leads the MVC in scoring in Valley games (16.3 ppg in MVC games, 13.9 ppg overall), will miss up to 6 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot. He injured the foot late in the game against Illinois State when he was fouled by Osiris Eldridge and Xrays Thursday revealed the stress fracture.
But there is even more bad news for the Sycamores, who Bradley plays on Feb. 16th in Terre Haute. 2nd leading scorer Dwayne Lathan (12.0 ppg), who was just returning from an ankle injury, also suffered a fracture to several bones in his left hand in the ISU game and will miss 4 to 6 weeks. They are already without injured starting guard Jake Kelly, who averaged 9.0 ppg in the 12 games he played in.

that's odd, because "stress fractures" are injuries to the bone that build up gradually via "stress'..

muscle transfers the overload of stress to the bone causing a tiny crack
called a stress fracture.
... repeated stress...This is in contrast to other types of fractures, which are

..but Marshall's injury was a single event that was described as happening with 18.8 seconds left in the game, which would suggest it is a traumatic fracture.

Perhaps the x-ray or whatever showed a weakening in the bones surrounding the area and thus they probably reasoned that the break was from pre-injury stress with a slight help from the twist of the ankle incident.

don't know, but as in DSE's case - a stress reaction is painful even before there is a fracture...it sneaks up on you and nags you......surely they would have known that in Marshall's case..
But if they cite a specific injury as the cause of the francture...all I can say is that doctors would label that an acute traumatic fracture - it wasn't there one minute, then it was there the next...and not a stress fracture..

What a "break" for Sycamore MBB Coach McKenna ...

With all the player injuries so far this year, he has a built in reason (excuse) for a poor season by his Sycamore team. Coach McKenna can take the rest of the year off and look to next year.

Wait, Indiana State is 6-6 in the Valley, 14-9 overall, and 8-3 so far at home this year? Don't the Sycamores know they are supposed to be awful?
