  • MVC Player of the Year?

I have no idea who is gonna win it, and unless Bradley can get into the top 3 in the league finish, I don't think Sam Maniscalco has a chance...

But here are just a few comparative statistics and these come from Valley numbers...
    ...............................scoring avg.....rebs.....asst.....3-ptFG%
    Sam Maniscalco.................15.1..........3.1...... 3.7........35.0%
    Osiris Eldridge....................14.9..........3.4..... .2.3........38.4%
    Josh Young.......................14.8..........0.7..... .2.6........32.7%
    Harry Marshall....................16.2.........3.9...... .3.7.........29.0%
    Andrew Warren..................14.7.........5.2........1. 0........42.4%
    Kenny Lawson....................13.0.........6.9....... 0.4.........0.0%
    Adam Koch........................12.1.........4.7...... ..1.7........35.0%
    Kwadzo A..........................8.7...........2.4...... .2.7.........27.3%
    Eglseder............................12.4.........8 .2........0.7........00.0% (0-3)
    P'Allen Stinnett...................8.0...........3.0...... .1.7........22.5%

I'd say Sam at least has a shot.......I have used conference stats since that equalizes the opponents instead of giving the advantage to the teams with the ridiculously soft non-conference opponents......
I think Sammy compares quite favorably and not one other Valley player stands out as substantially better, so I'm pulling for you Sam!

The POY won't be from a middle-of-the-pack team unless he's blowing away the rest of the league in scoring or something like that. Don't see it happening. We couldn't even get a sniff at POY when we went to Sweet 16.

My bet is on Eglseder as of now...

I love the guy but get Warren off the list now. Those have to be the most mis-leading stats of all time.

I will be surprised if anyone from BU gets any votes.

I'd agree that Eglseder is the leader at this point - although Osiris still has good peripheral numbers - 91% FT, 1.8 SPG, etc.

I know DU won't make much noise with the postseason awards, but Templeton is having a great year.

I have updated the stats to include last night's performances, and added Adam Templeton...
Again, I contend that just the extra and intangibles such as being point guard, having a great assist to turnover ratio, being so tough and gritty, and hitting key shots still put Sam Maniscalco right there at the top of consideration for Valley Player of the Year..
Personally, I think last night sealed it for OE, he doesn't have a chance now, and Marshall is having good stats, but it'll depend on whether the player's team finishes in the top 3 or 4...as I doubt the award will go to anyone whose team is sub .500.

              ...............................scoring avg.....rebs.....asst.....3-ptFG%

              Osiris Eldridge....................14.2..........3.5..... .2.5........36.8%
              Josh Young.......................14.8..........3.5..... .2.6........32.7%
              Harry Marshall....................16.3.........3.9...... .3.9.........28.7%
              Andrew Warren..................14.7.........5.2........1. 0........42.4%
              Kenny Lawson....................12.2.........6.7....... 0.4.........0.0%
              Adam Koch........................12.0.........4.5...... ..1.7........35.0%
              Kwadzo A..........................9.5...........2.5...... .2.5.........28.1%
              Eglseder............................12.6.........7 .8........0.7........00.0% (0-3)
              P'Allen Stinnett...................8.0...........3.0...... .1.7........22.5%
              Adam Templeton.................11.6..........8.1....... 1.0........46.7%

BTW - last night Harry Marshall hit 1000 career points...so it shows how fine of an accomplishment it was for Sam to do it even earlier in his junior year than Marshall has done it in his senior season.

Reminder...here were the preseason picks from media day last October..
Preseason Player of the Year - Osiris Eldridge
1st Team All Valley - Kwadzo, Osiris, Tony Freeman, Adam Koch, P'Allen Stinnett, Josh Young
Honorable Mention - Dillard, Hannah, Kelly, Maniscalco, Marshall, Murry
--at least half those twelve are likely already out of the running as Kelly and Stinnett aren't even playing, and a few others are having drop-offs from what was expected...

NOTE - guards dominate the list of past MVC POY's....
Here are the last 25 years POY's--
              1986 Jim Les, Bradley

              1998 Rico Hill, Illinois State
              1999 Marcus Wilson, Evansville
              2000 Nate Green, Indiana State

              2002 Kyle Korver, Creighton

I say Egleseder and Koch have to be front-runners...
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

It's going to be the best player off either the top team, or most surpising team. If INSU makes a good run to close the season and finishes 3rd or 4th, Marshall might be the guy.

I'll maintain that SM has no chance... but I'd love to see it happen!

I would say the 4 top front runners would be Ahelegbe, Eglseder, Hannah, and Murry.

Hannah and Murry are fine players but the POY award is an individual award...
and Murry currently ranks 12th in the league in scoring overall, 11th in rebounding, 7th in assists...
In conference games, Murry's scoring is 20th and his rebounding isn't in the top 20

Hannah is 15th in scoring, 2nd in assists, and 49th in rebounding and also tails off a bit in some conference-only stats...

Sam Maniscalco is inside the Top 10 in SEVEN different stat categories!..and virtually ALL his stats
are stronger in his conference games than overall!!
No other player on my list is in the Top 10 in as many categories, and some of the players that are named as favorites are surprisingly low in the stat totals..

                      For example..
Kwadzo isn't in the Top 10 in a single stat category..
Koch is Top 10 in only TWO stat categories (7th in FG%, 9th in FT%)

...so you know what I am saying...just lobbyng a little for the guy I think clearly is the frontrunner right now
...the very best player in the league!!

Last two winners- Woodfox and Emmenecker had one thing in common- Top team in the league...

Woodofx was best 3 pt shooter in nation hit 88.8% FT and was second leading scorer in league

Emmenecker had a breakout season- although hardly gaudy. He led leage in assists- better than 6 a game- but nearly doubled all of his career stats his senior year...

The way Sammy has played in league games he should be the front runner hands down. I just hope we can finish high enough to put him in position to get the POY award.

The thing about Emmenecker is he made that Drake team who it was. He might not have had the huge gaudy stats but night in night out his play was a difference maker on the top team in the league.

UNI will house this seasons player of the year. There is no clear cut player elsewhere who is a difference maker in total wins for his team in this conference.

If BU were say 10-4 and fighting for a top seed in this conference then SM should get strong consideration. Fact of the matter is Bradley is 6-6 and his play though very good in conference, has not been enough to make Bradley worth any consideration for anything this season. You dont give Player of the Year awards to teams that are average and its best player good not great or even the best in the conference.

Exactly and Drake won it all! SM maybe that type of player but we are not going undefeated in league play or close to it.
