  • DSE development

Still trying to find something good to blot out bad memories from the last game.

DSE has so much potential - has been thrown into the fire a little the last 2 games (which were big ones). He seemed a little rattled for the first time all season, but I think the whole team's shakiness rubbed off on him.

I think he, more than anyone on the team, makes everyone around him better. Definitely the brightest spot of the season for me.

Here is a link to a game-by-game log of Dyricus' stats-

He's looked good for a freshman, and will only get better. Though he is only averaging 4.5 ppg, 2.3 rpg, and 1.6 apg, he has only averaged 1.1 turnover per game, and he's done a lot of ballhandling. He is already one of the better on-ball defenders.

Though I would have preferred to have had Dodie Dunson playing all year, Dyricus has filled in well.

His defensive instincts and intensity are the two best parts of his game right now. Those two things you can't teach, it's scary to think what he'll be able to do once he fully adjusts his entire game to the D1 level. Not saying I'm not pleased with what he has done, just that I think there's still a lot of growing to be done as with any freshman.

I also remember a bunch of his passes that he has delivered in a great position that the recipient has blown. He does seem like a guy who understands how and when to pass in traffic and the mechanics of getting the ball into the post. Out of all the players I have seen play on this team, he has the biggest upside IMO. He is the type of player we can build a championship team around by his junior/senior year. He carries himself like an upperclassman already.

IMO, DSE as a freshman, is one of the more fundamentally sound players that I have seen at Bradley in quite some time.

You are right, the paper should start tracking the "blown assist" statistic they used to keep for Shaun Livingston..
also not sure how much it means, but CB said that DSE runs the pick-n-roll better than any of our other guards...

His shooting touch is not that of say, a Jeremy Crouch, but it's not a bad shot as is. When he misses, he seems just off the mark.
I see him being a complete player by the 2nd half of next year...provided he doesn't suffer a soph. slump.

DSE may be the key to a win tonight.

Simms Edwards has the biggest tool any freshman can have. He is physically put together. Similar to Carmichael for ISU these guys are gonna have basketball problems. They wont have physical problems which is huge in quick development.

The only thing he is missing is a consistent outside shot which can be worked on and improved this summer.

I've seen players come into my gym during the summer after a grueling workout and shoot over 1,000 shots just about every day. REPETITION makes for a solid shot with a bit of coaching. How much you want to bet that HH worked on his shot night and day?

From what I have seen and heard, I think that DSE will be the type of player who will go to the gym and take 1,000 shots per day to perfect his three point shot.

Well, he has one of the best shooters ever at BU and in the MVC on the coaching staff If I were DSE I would have him next to me everytime I went to the gym

I agree that this kid looks good. What I really love about him is that he looks to drive the ball to the basket. I don't want to pick the fly specks out of this but he hasn't proven that he is a decent shooter.

It is a small sample size but he is 6-22 for .273 on three pointers thus far. That will need to get better.

Free throws are an area of concern too. Thus far he is 18-32 or .563. Other teams will just start fouling him when he drives to the basket if he doesn't improve those numbers. He will need to get his average up to the mid to high seventies if he wants to be on the floor at the end of close games.

I am sure he will improve his shooting numbers. It will give him something to work on over the summer.

His intensity and will to make a play have quickly made him one of my favorite players. I'm looking forward to substantial minutes for him tonight. He does have work to do, but from what I've seen so far, if he doesn't get better, it won't be because of lack of effort!
