Sounds like good news to me, and yes since his 5 year clock started spring semester last year he would only be eligible for 3.5 years at BU starting next year unless there is some waiver that could get approved by the NCAA."How do you go from where you are to where you want to be? I think you have to have an enthusiasm for life. You have to have a dream, a goal, and you have to be willing to work for it." - Jim Valvano

Probably a stupid question, but if he had 3.5 years left what will happen with the .5 years left at the end? It would seem weird to have him play the first half of a year and then be done wouldn't it?? Getting way to far ahead I know, but I didn't understand how it would work.

???We wouldn??™t waste a year of eligibility for the kid. If he keeps going to school, which he??™s shown that he will, he??™ll be ready to graduate (in May) and go (to a four-year college) for four years. So it might turn out to be in his best interests. He??™d have to have a major screwup to not do it.???
Not sure if that means 4 years of school or eligibility. If he does only have 3.5 years of eligibility he would most likely sit out until the end of the fall semester next year, then serve his 5 game suspension and be eligible 1st or 2nd week of January and a couple games into conference play.
I also think he has been through enough to not majorly screw up in his classes when he's this close to end the whole mess.
???If we had him, we might be be the No. 1 (NJCAA) team in the country,??? Carroll said. ???At this level, he??™d be worth 17-18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks a night.???
Wow. If he posted those numbers he would be one of the top JUCO transfers in the country. I'm curious what position Carroll would have him playing and how much he weighs now. Maybe the time off gave him time for his frame to fill out.

That seems encouraging. I hope he comes to play for us and is as good as advertised.

They enroll, are not on the official roster, they take a limited number of credit-hours to remain part-time students, and they take no scholarship money their first semester (or it can be up to a full year). That way their "clock" doesn't start until they actually begin playing or receiving a scholarship at the start of the next season, or when they become full-time students (12 hours per semester).
John's coach said he would retain 4 years of college eligibility, and it's possible he could be correct.
Here is a football definition, but it can apply to basketball, as well.-
