  • hanging on the rim

I know it made no difference in the result but did they quit calling hanging on the rim after someone dunks. Odiakosa was hanging on there a long time and i dont know how the refs didn't see that and not call it

Much agreed. I about lost it when he got away with that one! They sure saw a lot of ticky tack stuff on Will though.
    Go small or go home!

i agree. and do you believe the guy that called the fouls on will was tom o'neill. he worked the ncca championship game last year and is one of the most respected officials in college basketball.well, i guess even the best have bad games.

I thought the rules stated that the players hanging on the rim is allowed, so long as they're doing it to avoid landing on top of/onto another player. I'm not sure I saw a time where Odiakosa hung on when he was out there alone -- there were always usually people around. A little showmanship? Sure. But good... you should! But I don't know that I saw him hanging on the rim excessively that would warrant being called out on it... would be ticky-tack.

This is one of my pet peeves of college basketball right now. I can understand the spirit of the rule where a player might land on another player or awkwardly land himself. But some players in college have started hanging on the rim too much.

One of the worst offenders of this is John Wall at Kentucky. Anytime he streaks down the floor and dunks, he hangs on the rim and swings his legs around (I guess to give the appearance of trying to get his balance). He isn't the only one who does this and I agree with some of the posters here that Odiakosa seemed to hang a bit on one of his dunks at least.

Let's get the officials back to calling this. If a player is truly avoiding injury, then that's OK. But those players that hang on the rim on a breakaway or slap the backboard after a dunk, T them up. If this was called more frequently, the players will quit hanging on the rim.

There's another thing that's been bothering me about college basketball. I believe that it's time to stop the chirping that players do at the refs. This isn't the NBA, the only players who should be talking to the officials are the captains. Shoot a dirty look at a ref, give the "who? ME?" look after a foul call or try to plead that you didn't do what was called, drop a T on the player. They would adjust in time.

Personally, I'd rather see MVC officials consistantly go with the "no call" regarding hanging on the rim.

Everyone sees highlights on ESPN with rim hanging. In my mind too many "rim hanging" calls give recruits another "why bother playing in the MVC" like the bias against inside play.

I still remember. several years ago, 'Cellus trying to energize his team, he got a steal and a breakaway dunk, and with much less hanging than Odiakosa, got a hanging call A potential game turning point was immediately nullified.

I DEFINATELY agree with this Raider! These are kids! Question the authority of an official and T 'em up! Kids should be seen, not heard

Jeffsu you are absolutely correct . If anyone is in the area, it is permissible to hang on the rim. If the player decides to do chin ups then they should receive a "T". Like most calls it is a judgement as to whether a player is close enough to warrent hanging on the rim.

Bocot gets a T for hanging on the rim on a break-away steal slam dunk with 6 minutes to go and SIU ahead of UNI (AT UNI). Will this be a turning point for UNI?

Bad technical foul. Bocot was going to fall on his @ss if he let go. I've seen that not called in several other games. Bad call.

Agree! I know I should be pulling for UNI but I'm not!

I also have to say the reffing is terrible calling too many touch fouls on both teams and killing any offensive flow to this game.
