The Des Moines Register Website did a poll (non-scientific) and asked fans to select their MVP- they were somewhat split. Ali Farokhmanesh was the leading votegetter with 42%, but Adam Koch was virtually even with him at 41%. Kwadzo Ahelegbe, Jordan Eglseder and top reserve Lucas O'Rear all got strong support, too.
This presents a bit of a dilemma for those media and coaches voting for POY and All Conference slots. None of the UNI guys stand out as a clearcut MVP on their own team.
Dave Reynolds has made his ballot known for the post season awards...
he is not allowed to vote for players on the team he covers, and his is only one of 40 ballots (4 from each team, the team's coach & SID plus the team's beat writer and broadcast media person).
All Newcomer: Ryan, Mallett, Freeman, Leonard, Blair
All Freshman: Ryan, Teague, VanDeest, Carmichael, Troy Taylor
POY: Dinma
NOY & FOY: Ryan

I have no beef with any selections, but I sure would have had Koch on 1st team and Weems, Hannah, & Lawson on 2nd team..and Harry Marshall, although injured and missed some games (4 Valley games) was still the scoring leader among all players in Valley games - thus I would have had him on 1st team also...
Plus, as noted above by Da Coach, even the UNI fans voted Ali as their MVP - so I'd have had Ali on 2nd team and maybe Kwadzo also
Another stumper is the inclusion of Troy Taylor on the All Frosh team and the EXCLUSION of Ethan Wragge!!
Taylor helped his Evansville team to a grand total of two conference wins by putting up such astounding numbers as this---
in 22.3 min/gm, 34% shooting (and those are all two pointers, as he took only 3 from behind the arc),
plus 62% FT shooter, 4.2 ppg, and 3.6 rpg, 3 apg.
These numbers make DSE look like all-conference!
Even Taylor's own freshman teammate Ned Cox scored 7.2 ppg and 40% from the arc (28-70)
Wragge (Creighton) meanwhile averaged 6.4 ppg, hit 41% of his 3's and 84% on FT and not only led the Bluejays in 3-pt shots made, he even finished Top-10 in the league in 3-pointers made.
I would be equally stumped by the Troy Taylor vote, except I can tell you why he's there. Since these guys cannot vote for their own teams' players, they want to save one of their votes for someone who has no chance to finish higher than Dyricus Simms-Edwards. That helps assure that there aren't 5 guys ahead of DSE which keep him from getting voted onto the team. If anyone doesn't understand that logic, let me know.
The player of the year will probably be either Koch or even Odiakosa if ISU sneaks into the 2nd seed in the Valley. Bradley knows first hand how much an impact Odiakosa makes in the Valley and on that Redbird team with Osiris struggling as much as he has been this season. Ali Farokhmanesh I see as more of a role player, so if he gets any award, it will be either second-team or honorable mention.
From a Bradley student's perspective, here's my first team All-Valley:
Adam Koch
Sam Maniscalco
Osiris Eldridge
Dinma Odiakosa
Toure' Murry
Jordan Egelseder
I still have Egelseder on the first team ballot because even though he had an OWI, his real punishment will be not having a chance to win POY.
Last year they were announcd on Tuesday, but I think some years were not until Wednesday. The COY will be announcd at the MVC luncheon on Thursday, and maybe the all bench team.
Dinma Odiakosa IMO should get the award hands down, even though it is hard for me to put a redbird in such a lofty position.
Just wondering who was the last great player to come out of the MVC, not very good, but great? I remember the anticipation of going to games to watch Xavier McDaniels. I'm sure there were other fans who could not wait to see what the Hawk would bring. I'd put Parker in that category but after him who also had that aura of greatness.
