But they for the most part are some of the more solid officials in college basketball. BTW Higgins was one of the refs at the UCONN v Texas game this past weekend.
I have noticed that. I watched the Syracuse Georgetown game last evening and even the announcers were that they were surprised that with all the contact that a foul was not called. I like it when the refs allow physical play because there seems to be a better flow to the game. Most good refs set what they are going to allow early and are consistent from then on.

I can't name one game in the last five years where BU has won or lost because of officiating. There's always a little home court bias in my opinion, but that happens everywhere. John Higgins is a very good official, and my wife refers to him as "Malibu Ken."
We have called Higgens "Bay Watch" ever since we first saw him. He is by far one of the best officials in the country and his schedule proves it. He works alot of the biggest games in the country and if he stays healthy will work the finals before long. As far as Sanzere and Pollard go,I'd rather not see them on our games but we don't get a vote. Its nice to see someone like Higgens get his start in our league and get to the level he has.

We have nicknames for them all, but John Higgins (pretty boy as I call him) was coined as "pleated pants" by my sister in law.

While all wear pants with pleats now...the ever so vain JH wore them first.

P.S. my brother calls Mike Sanzere..."Tim Kurkjian."

I still don't like him! Thanks for the info...I've never been much of a ref-knower. I have met Hightower (after illinois fell to iowa to go to 17-1 a few years back, in which he reffed) and that is it, i was still nice to him though.

I just checked out that Higgins statsheet page. Man, that is some serious traveling they have to go thru every season. Traveling to a different state almost every day of the season. With all the crap they put up with during the game, I bet they sleep good at night LOL.

Oh and I forgot, how do these refs get their schedules? Are they contacted by conference directors or Referee Association or what?

Every conference has a supervisor of officials and he is responsible for the assignments for the conference he represents. Jim Bain from Decatur, Il. was the supervisor/ assignor in the MVC for years but I think he has retired. Not sure who is the boss man is currently.

Jim Bain did retire after last season.
The new Coordinator of Men's basketball Officials is Eddie Jackson.

I liked the officiating tonight (i never felled compelled to say anything rude). although a view behind DU's bench in the student section isn't the best. I noticed he called a few very touchy fouls though...his wing man, the bigger guy, was with him too.

                          I won't say they called a bad game...but...
at the end, when Josh Young repeatedly drove wildly and out of control into the lane with no hope of actually taking a decent shot, just trying to force contact...
the refs repeatedly rewarded Young with 2 FT's...
I think that was really bad officiating...I think those should have been no-calls....
on each of those plays, the BU defenders played decent defense, and even tried to back off and avoid contact, but Young still drove right into them...
I really got the feeling the refs were trying to even the game for some reason....

I thought the game was officiated very well. Neither coaching staff complained much. I hardly noticed them.

Often when you are the aggressor you get the benefit of the doubt. Something Andrew Warren needs to think about being.

John Higgins sure does get around. Saturday did the BU game. Sunday did Illini OSU game. Monday did the Kansas-Texas A&M game in Texas. Wonder where he will be tonight?
