  • SIU's Teague out for now

Heard Coach Lowrey on the SIU post game show. Their hottest player Gene Teague is not eligible to play. He said there was very little he could say other than the university has an appeal in the the NCAA, lawyers are involved and they expect to hear something by Friday.

From the sound of it the NCAA for some reason has no declared Teague ineligible and SIU has appealed that ruling. Very odd for a ruling to come up mid-season. The NCAA had to clear him before the season started.

This is weird! I wonder if he is ruled ineligible if the wins they had when he played would be forfeited as losses i.e. Memphis and Derrick Rose. DR was cleared but later investigated and found out that he should not have been cleared.

I found it strange as well. It's an appeal.. so the NCAA has ruled against him for some reason. We should know more tomorrow.

If its a case of him cheating the NCAA like Rose did they should very well lose their wins, but if it's the NCAA missed something I don't see how they can take them away. This could get real ugly.

Teague is currently 9th in minutes played, 8th in scoring, 6th in rebounds, 5/18 asst/TO, 44% FT shooter (you wouldn't want him in at the end of a close game) --
but it does hurt their depth...kinda like us losing DSE or Jake

Yes he has played more in the last 5-6 games, averaging more like 15-16 minutes over that stretch..but...
SIU has gone 1-5 with only a close win over lowly Evansville...in the time span that he's been playing "more"

The SIU fans I know considered him an emerging player and were not happy to see him on the bench.. not even taking his sweats off.

                    Just in...

I don't know if the official release is out but Teague has been cleared to play and will be in the lineup Saturday.

Apparently over the winter break one of his records was lost.. SIU benched him as a precaution. The record has since been found and the NCAA said all is well.

good for him - I am glad it didn't turn out to be a bigger issue.

I hope he'll make an impact on Sat's game vs. ISU to tighten the middle of the pack even more.
A win by the Salukis would make BU's victory seem a little sweeter!

some Saluki fans have figured out exactly what's the problem at SIIU-

they really miss Ryan Hare, Josh Bone, and Brandon Wood --- surprised they guy doesn't throw in Torres Roundtree, too!!
