  • Tony Bennett/Virginia - Leads the ACC

if anyone doubts that Virginia made a good move by firing Dave Leitao and hiring Tony Bennett, note this...
In just his 2nd season, Bennett is already 12-4, and 3-0 in the ACC, sitting alone at 3-0 on top of the league..
They still have a long way to go and have yet to play UNC or Duke - but kudos to Tony and the job he's doing there.

I've always like Bennett as well as his father....very class guys. I still remember years ago some of Dick Bennett's speeech at the BU gala........

It may sound weird but he said most of the time a team loses the game as opposed the other team winning. Meaning it's more the mistakes and lack of execution that costs teams wins than superior play of the winner.

I sat in front and noticed him putting sliverware and stuff in his coat pocket....and I told the guy sitting next to me to watch and sure enough he put something else from the table...we couldn't believe it. Of course it led to a joke on the crowd and it was great

So it only takes 2 years to turn a program around and make them a contender...interesting...

I will eat my hat if UVA finishes better than 6-10 in that conference.

they are an early contender....but I also think that the ability for an ACC school to recruit and get top players is not even in the same solar system as doing same at a midmajor school...
BTW - Bennett's top current player, Sylven Landesberg, a 5-Star player, was actually landed by Dave Leitao...

I would tend to agree with you; they were picked to finish 11th out of 12 teams. However, they have already beat NCSU (which I expected) and Miami and Ga. Tech. I would not have expected them to win both of those games. Bennet is a good coach and this team keeps getting better and better. If they beat Wake in a few days watch out.

Kinda like Danny Granger was landed by Coach Mo?

T good to see you rooting for the ex-Brave coach Ritchie McKay. Once a Brave always a Brave.

I actually like Ritchie quite a bit more than most of the infamous people from the past who have tried to hurt BU, as I really think he has a good heart and wasn't the instigator of the DG transfer...he only piled on later...
but he kinda got his karma payback at UNM...

But therein lies the difference - Landesberg stayed at Virginia as there wasn't anyone tampering and luring him with lies, dirty dealings, NCAA violations, secret phone calls and promises...
but JL never had the benefit of Granger to help rack up wins, as DG had already been poisoned and was not with the program.

If they play like they did last night against UNCW, 3-13 is likely.

But I do agree with you...6-10 is probably as good as they can do...
