Storming the Court

I guess since there's no real legislation on when you can storm the court...
I'll help out..........

I saw three examples of home crowds storming the court yesterday.....
and they fall into three different categories....

First - any time your team wins a championship, nobody can blame a team when they storm the court, as the BU fans did in the Big Apple after the NIT title win back in 1982.

Then there's other pretty good games to choose to rush the court...
Michigan's big non-conference win over 15th ranked UConn was also a time to celebrate.

Then there are some pretty weak instances to do this...
Northwestern is trying to prove they belong with the big boys...so when they stormed the court after a regular season home conference game, even though it's a team ahead of them in the standings...this is pretty lame.
But I guess the Northwestern basketball fans can be forgiven since they haven't had much chance to celebrate since WWII.

Then comes the most laughable case of storming the court. This one is NOT forgivable. The once proud Hoosiers....who used to sit in their seats and assume it was their Constitutional right to beat a middle of the pack, 3-3 Minnesota team on their home court...now relish any win over any team, apparently...
Just what does it say for your lowered expectations when you storm the court after beating a team that at best might be described as mediocre?

Illini fans are having a field day laughing at how far IU has fallen...when their fans storm the court after a home win against team that isn't even in the upper half of the Big Ten.

They shouldn't worry...with Crean there, IU will be back for sure...


As far as I can see, Illinois has won the games they should win in the conference...

They still have Purdue, @ NW, @ Penn St, Michigan St, @ Wisky, Ohio St, @ Purdue, @ Michigan, @ Ohio St, and Wisky at home to end the season...

IF they win even 3 of those, I might be impressed...

OO Balance---I was one of the BU fans who stormed the Madison Sq. Garden court when we won the NIT and I have a couple of comments regarding your post. Most of us "white Haired-Cane totting" old floks have been fans longer than you've been alive. I stand all the time-Inspite of a recent hip replacement and arteritis- and I hollar as much as anyone. I have been a BU contributor for over 40 years and have been closely involved with coaches and players over the years. Us old guys supported BU thru good times and bad.

I would suggest you rethink your ill-informed knee-jerk geriatric discrimination and hope that you may lucky enough to join us if you survive the coming years!

Ha wizard, I apologize for up setting you or any one else I meant no harm to anyone Trust me, I am not that way I was just having fun with the thing of fans storming the floor and the things that have been posted lately about the fans not standing during home games. Just remember, every one of those fans in the lower bowl, whether they stand or not, pays a big maintenance fee to keep their season tickets. Those fees generate millions of dollars for the athletic department. Without that, Bradley would not be able to compete at the D1 level.

A lot of those seats are corporate owned and some are occupied by Illini fans, Rivermen fans, CAT fans, Nacho fans, or Beer fans...

Basically, most are different ppl each night, and there in lies some of the problems with the fans either not caring, not showing, or some of those that leave with 6 minutes to go regardless of what is happening in the game.

There are many things I would like to see the University do differently when it comes to assigning tickets, but we won't get into that as I will just blow a gasket.

STL, whoever owns them is paying those exorbitant maintenance fees that support BU. I would say that gives them the right to let anyone use the tickets they want. There are some corporate owners, but the great majority are owned by private individuals.

You do realize that the "regular season home conference game" was against the 6th ranked team in the country right? And it was Northwestern who beat them, the same Northwestern program who has never been to an NCAA Tourney. Yeah, I'd say they had a good reason to do so. That win might be the one at the end of the season that gets them into the dance at the end of the year.

In my opinion, there are a few steadfast rules when it comes to rushing the court:

2. You may rush the court if your team beats a team ranked in the top 5, maybe the top 10.

3. You cannot rush the court if your team is ranked. Period. Your team is ranked, act like you've been here before.

4. You may rush the court if your team hits a miraculous shot to beat your rival at the buzzer.

I dont know if you can make a rule for every situation. Clemson beat UNC this year and they were both ranked, but Clemson had not beaten UNC in 10 years. I think that was justified.

Ha DC, I sit in the lower bowl, so whats your point here I apologized to wizard, anyone else and deleted my post If that is not good enough, so be it. I am not going to back up anymore Now you come up with this lower bowl and I/they pay more money than you do BS Well friend, just in case you and some don't know it, it's about being a fan and supporting BU first! I don't think where you sit and how much money you pay/give, how old you are, has anything to do with it. There are many fans who cannot attend BU games for what ever reasons but do follow them on TV and the radio. What about the many seats in the lower bowl each game that are empty Seems like if those fans, if not able to attend would give them to someone who would enjoy them I am sure most do but I know most are corp. seats but there is no reason why not give them to someone and bring a smile to someone I understand the need for money but don't point to seats and say thats where the real fans sit Come on Man

There are many things I would like to see the University do differently when it comes to assigning tickets, but we won't get into that as I will just blow a gasket.

I would be willing to bet (not that it could be proven in understand) that BU has a MUCH higher percentage of "die hard life long" BU fans sitting in these seats than most universities.

I know some of you have been around longer than I have, but a large percentage of the people sitting near the floor have been sitting there a long time and rarely miss a spaghetti supper let alone a game.
