With ISU/Creighton going on in Normal and UNI/Wichita having already played last night, I fully expect to get the Valley D crew...more than likely one of Pollard, Janssen, Draucher, McCall, or Wyman...or more than one of those...

So yes, it will be bad regardless...but I blame that on the conference for not being willing to pony up the money to keep the better officials and for better crews.

those three guys who have done the most BU games...

Don Daily is absolutely the VERY top ranked guy (#1) in all of D-I in fouls per game..
Gerry Pollard is 8th, and
Kelly Self is tied for 14th MOST fouls per game...
so the guys we get the MOST are #1, #8, and #14 in all the land in calling the MOST fouls!!!!!!
so all three of the guys who do the MOST BU games are inside the top 15 foul callers in ALL of D-I, out of several hundred refs that do games!

Why do we always get the guys with the hot whistles??

This brings up an interesting question. Do coaches know in advance who the referees for their next game will be? If so, do you think they would game plan any differently based on this info?

Additionally, It seems SIU has quickly lost their reputation for physical ???D???, so how will that impact the game tonight? In games gone by with SIU, you would have probably preferred a ref crew that was quick to whistle. Lately, it seems this might not be as much of a factor. Either way, let??™s just win the game, no matter what agenda the refs might have.

In nonconference games, the home team will know who the refs are because they usually hire them and arrange their travel and accomodations. Sometimes the visiting team will negotiate some authority to dictate the refs.
But in MVC conference games, as in nearly every conference, neither team has anything to say about the officials. All the arrangements are made by the conference.
I am in Carbondale and stayoing at the team hotel, and I can say that nobody from Bradley knows who the refs will be tonight. They usually learn that when they arrive at the arena later tonight for the game. Occasionally they might accidentally learn it earlier if they happen to run into the officials at the hotel.
