Does anyone know what the latest status of the John Wilkins situation is? How is his legal battle proceeding? Is he still committed to BU?

John Wilkins is an April Fool's joke. I think he was a fictional player created by the BU staff to give us some false sense of hope for the next few years. The spring signing period will come and go, Wilkins will not resurface, and then we will realize that we all fell for a well-constructed practical joke concerning this imaginary Wilkins fellow.

Wilkins will never play in Peoria.

Wilkins is not a myth or a joke, and it's insulting and ignorant to suggest so. Anyone who is informed would know he is a talented kid who was screwed by the NCAA, then by the NJCAA, and now by the Iowa court system (they are taking weeks to act on a request for an emergency injunction). He'll play ball somewhere, and as long as there is a chance he would come to Bradley, the coaches should keep trying.

He already has opportunities to play in Europe, but he wants to play college ball in the US.
Too bad for the kid, the system has not been kind to him.

I for one can only hope that John will sign with BU in the spring, his best opportunity for playing immediately is here and I also think he can make a bigger difference at Bradley then anywhere else, what a great opportunity to come to BU when the new state of the art facility is opened.
I feel bad for him in that a ruling should have been made by now as his season is getting shorter and shorter and it just appears that nobody is willing to help him out.

You are right. If the court would just decide either yes, or no, John could at least begin to decide where he will go from here, and move on with his life. But the worst thing that could happen to him is if the court just holds on to this case, keeps him in limbo, and let's his chance of playing ball this season run out. That appears to be the game this court is playing.

John Wilkins will be manning BU's frontcourt next year next to the Lirpa Sloof, the masive, highly skilled, highly coveted 7 footer from Eastern Europe.

I don't know the inner workings of the legal system. But wouldn't something like an emergency injunction get moved to the top of the dockets?

I remember the kid at North Lawndale who was accused of cheating on a test and ruled ineligible to play. He filed an emergency injunction to overturn North Lawndale's decison and the injunction was heard within a few days.

Now I understand how crazy things are in Iowa right now based on the links provided by Tornado. But I would imagine Chicago's courts last year were pretty crazy too. Actually I can't think of a time when Chicago courts wouldn't be crazy, but that's another story.

If anyone has any information how about how this whole thing (injunctions in relation to daily dockets) work, it would be interesting to hear it. Where is that Creighton guy or Vroomanfan when you need em.

I have no idea how things work in Iowa, but here in California, and generally elsewhere, you can file an application for a temporary restraining order/preliminary injunction and get in front a judge within a few days of filing a lawsuit, where immediate relief is necessary.
A preliminary injunction generally requires a showing of harm from delay (which would seem to be obvious here), as well as a likelihood of prevailing on the merits of the case.

I'd be very surprised if Wilkins lawyers haven't had a hearing re preliminary injunctive relief at this point, so the fact that he's still not playing (if that's the case) may mean the judge wasn't very receptive to their arguments.

I saw Lirpa play at a summer camp outside of Milwaukee last year, and this guy is the real deal! I have heard that he has remained in contact with the Bradley staff throughout the year, and is hopeful of making his way to the Hilltop next year if his eligibility issues can get worked out.
I hesitated to post this info on a public board like this because once the word on Lirpa gets out, every college recruiter is the country is going to want to get on the next flight to Slovenia to see him with their own eyes...he is truly a difference maker! The most skilled big man that the organizers of the Milwaukee camp had ever seen! But everything I've heard is that Lirpa is firmly committed to BU, and there's no reason to think that we won't see Sloof and Wilkins dominating together at BU over the next several years. Glory days are on their way back to the Hilltop!!!

Lirpa Sloof will almost certainly be in the news again in about 2 1/2 months when he signs

as for Wilkins, I suspect we will hear when we hear....

I thought Wilkins already committed and it was a done deal? We have a signed letter of intent, right?
