  • OJ Mayo sabotaged USC efforts & investigation

Nice guy to have as one of your alums...he said he'd cooperate but simply hasn't lived up to his word and has hung his school out to dry..

apparently in an effort to distance himself from all the scandal at USC, and protect himself from incrimination, Mayo has refused to cooperate with the investigation.

"Mayo, who has maintained he never received any improper benefits...
Smith (Mayo's agent), who was retained by Mayo last August, also told the
    Times that Mayo would cooperate
    in an investigation..

When reached by phone on Thursday morning and asked why Mayo did not
    cooperate
with USC's internal investigation, Smith said, "We have no
comment at all on this issue."

Former USC basketball player O.J. Mayo refused to cooperate with the school in its own investigation into allegations that he accepted improper gifts and benefits during the 2007 season, according to USC athletic director Mike Garrett.

Why should he cooperate? I know I wouldn't...... and I don't even need an attorney to tell me that. Mayo has NOTHING to gain by speaking. Whether he's innocent or guilty NO GOOD can come out of this for him. His silence just distances him from this and keeps his name out as much as possible. He knows his current group of fans (as well as sponsors) don't really care about his past. Out of site, out of mind.

There is a reason why Mayo will not cooperate as he most likely was getting illegal benefits like a lot of the star athletes at USC.

he's worried that he might have to give back that huge plasma screen TV and all the nice duds and cash he and other members of his family pocketed..

Former USC basketball player O.J. Mayo, a projected lottery pick in this year's NBA draft, received thousands of dollars in cash, clothes and other benefits that appear to violate NCAA rules, a four-month ESPN Outside the Lines investigation has revealed.
