This is a team that went completely winless last year because they had to forfeit their entire season,
....and is still facing possibly more NCAA sanctions for illegal recruiting ...but has already self-imposed a post season ban
...so it doesn't matter at all how many games they win...they're going nowhere...

BUT....if you look at the game's play-by-play, you'll see that even though they had a 50+ point lead early in the 2nd half,
it looks clear they are trying to run up the score or set some kind of record...

although their starters got some rest in the 1st half.......
Just look at the final minute or so of the game, when USI is ahead by as much as 65 points--
starters Jamar Smith, Kevin Gant, Tyrone Bradshaw are all still in the game and launching 3-pointers 7 and 8 seconds into the possession!!

The other two starters also played inside the final 3 minutes as well.....and only one sub played more than 18 minutes.

SEVEN of Jamar Smith's 3-pointers (21 of his 33 points) came AFTER USI already had almost a 40 point lead!!!
(all of them before the shot clock had even run down 1/2 way on the possession!)
AND four of the 3-pointers were in the final 6 minutes of the game when USI's lead was already almost 60 points!!

So you don't have to be a genius here to see what's happening...
They are playing a very, very weak team that's 2-12 and 0-5 in conference, and they decide to ram it down their throats and run the score as high as they can to get into the headlines...
I guess this is their way of vindication...getting what they can since they are going under at the end of the season anyway....
Again - when your team is leading by anywhere from 45 to 65 - there's only one reason the starters are still in there jacking up 3's early in every possession....

    Here's what's ironic, though.......
the NCAA's investigation is still ongoing.....the only penalties are the self-imposed ones by USI in hopes the NCAA won't go further...
BUT if it is found that some of their players indeed have been given illegal benefits or were illegally recruited, then just possibly
the NCAA might yet rule that some of their current players are also ILLEGAL and not eligible...
thus the NCAA could still rule that this season's wins also must be vacated....
so in the end, USI might still be decalred the loser of this 65-point blowout!!
