Your signature says it all about the love/hate relationship with JL:
"I envision Missouri Valley Championships".
We all loved JL for his story (former overachieving BU player coming back to save his university's basketball program), for his enthusiasm and confidence in himself to get BU championships under his reign.
The fact the program hasn't achieved the success we all hoped and prayed for, as espoused by this inexperienced coach, and the endless string of reasons it hasn't happened, has led some to suggest a change.
If only JL had claimed - "I envision Missouri Valley Championships in year 9 or 10, if injuries don't get in the way, if I have a new practice facility, if my players stay for four years, and if the NCAA will rule my recurits eligible" perhaps public opinion would be different..
Yeah. Too bad JL didn't come in here and say, "I envision many mid-conference finishes." That would have made us feel real good.

What do you expect a new coach to say?
My point exactly DBF!!!!....
I wouldn't have felt real good about new coach JL saying this when he was hired, as I am now also not feeling real good about it happening at BU with this now experienced coach!
When BU chose Les, they lost not only the chance to have Wayne McClain join the program but also lost a beloved trustee, Joe Billy McDade. That was a very sad chapter in Hilltop history. Unfortunately, I do not believe that the current administration has any greater vision that will pull the team, or the university, from the abyss. BU has awesome, energetic students and highly talented faculty - people who could be teaching at superior institutions. Yet they choose BU because they love it and they love the idea of it. Once we find an administration equal to the vision of Lydia Moss Bradley, the Bradleys - those on the court and off - won't be stoppable.
I have never understood those that rail on JL for wanting, hoping and promising ggod things for BU. Like others have stated, was he suppose to strive for less?
I judge him on what he has done...not what he SAID he would do.

Good point
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

You obviously don't follow BU close enough tuilp. BJ McDade exorcized his demons with the decision and is currently "on-board". Get the facts before denigrating the BU Administration! I think most everyone knows that Wayne McClain would have been a BIG mistake.

The fact that McDade resigned as a trustee was a huge loss - and tremendous embarrassment - for the university. "Most everyone knows that Wayne McClain would have a Big mistake." Can you prove that?
It was too bad that Joe Billy stepped down as a trustee. I hope he does agree to return to the board if the opportunity occurs.
And Jim Les didn't have anything to do with that, it was just an unfortunate outcome of differences in the committee-based hiring process.
I still hope Wayne McClain gets a head coaching job someday, but here we are 8 years later, and he's had no offers. All I'll say is I think Bradley made the right choice.
And tulip- I think Bradley has an exceptional team of administrators.
Look at the stats, rankings, donations, and growing reputation of The University. Just because the University's policies and ideologies don't align with yours does not mean they are doing things wrong. You're obviously either young, naive, and an ideologue..... or someone who speaks without facts
That's not what I consider independent info. Were you BU educated?
It's third party info listed on a BU website. I don't have the time, nor desire, to Google every source that BU cites and point you to it. Do it yourself if you like. I have no doubts about BU's quality. If you do then you should transfer to one of the schools on the list that I linked.
And yes, I was BU educated. I learned that names (like tulip) should be capitalized
