Not a pretty picture, but we still have 15 more plus St. Louie to improve. Look at it this way...we can only go up. Right?

Here are the MVC only stats-

Andrew Warren leads the Valley in scoring after 3 games.

actually Taylor Brown does at 21.0 ppg but he has only played in 67% of league games thus far and needs to play at least 75% to be included in the stats.

Well hopefully he will be able to play tonight and then he will be eligible to make the statistical rankings

The stats that scare me are the ones showing minutes played per game. We have 3 guys in the top 10.
            CR=35.7 mpg

              CR 35.7 mpg
              AW 35.0 mpg
              SM 33.7 mpg

TB will probably be on the list if he plays tonight. This is a big reason why we blow second half leads. Our guys are tired. It also does not bode well for the second half of the conference schedule and the tournament. Our guys will be real tired toward the end of the year.

Notice that Creighton has nobody on the list. That is how those guys win so many games. They play ten deep and their best players go less than 30 minutes. They are fresh for the end of games and the end of the seasons.

Don't read this as a knock on Jim Les. It is not.

By the way, I think people look at AW, TB, CR and say these are three of the best players in the league. How come we can't win? They can't put their finger on the answer so they blame the coach. I don't think it is the coach I think it is our lack of depth due to injuries that is killing us and will continue to kill us this year. Hoepfully we get DSE back soon and the suspensions stop.
We may have no choice but to go big with our lineup.

              Go Braves!

but we also have 3 guys in the top 8 in scoring in conference play, so I say keep 'em on the court

That may be why they lead the league in scoring. Maybe it is because they play more minutes than everyone else.

I am not saying we bench these guys, just that we try to keep their minutes down a little. Sometimes you can win the battle and lose the war.

I understood what you meant, and it might be a valid point. If BU could maintain leads a little better, I think our guys might get some much needed rest minutes on the bench.

However, we cannot keep leads and are forced to leave our starters in for long stretches.

Reminds me of Will Franklin's big Sr. year when we faded down the stretch and he was completely gassed come tournament time and we couldn't make it out of the Semi's (again)

Don't forget about AW coming off an injury and averaging 36 minutes/game over the last 7 games.

I certainly hope he's good to go the rest of the way, because it looks like we'll be needing him to carry most of the offensive load!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Agreed! Especially when he is coming off STRESS fractures.
I would rather see him in the 25-28 minute range!

Hopefully with DSE back, the minutes of AW, SM and CR will all go down a little. Im I allowed to blame their high minutes on injuries to Dodie and DSE, or is that too much of an excuse?

Maybe instead of being up by 16 at half time, we can play the bench more and end up being up only 6 or 8, but having our key guys more rested and with more energy for the second half.

There could be other advantages of this, such as keeping the bench players motivated, getting them experience and maybe even finding the hot hand now and then.

                              Just a thought.
